Job summary

The Tool & Gage House is seeking an experienced Dimensional Calibration Technician to join our metrology team in Illinois. The role focuses on precision measurement, calibration, inspection, and documentation to meet established accuracy requirements in accordance with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in dimensional calibration, metrology, quality inspection, precision machining, or a related field.
  • Proficiency calibrating dimensional measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, torque tools, height gauges, and related instrumentation.
  • Experience using dimensional measurement standards including gage blocks, ring gauges, pin gauges, surface plates, and other inspection equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540, and measurement traceability requirements preferred.
  • Understanding of blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate and certify dimensional measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, bore gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, gage blocks and torque measuring devices.
  • Perform dimensional calibrations and inspections using established procedures, industry standards, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Utilize precision measurement equipment such as surface plates, optical comparators, gage block sets, measuring microscopes, and other laboratory standards to verify instrument accuracy.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, and calibration procedures to perform accurate measurements and evaluations.
  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform adjustments, repairs, or recommendations for corrective action when applicable.
  • Maintain measurement traceability through proper use and care of reference standards and calibration equipment.
  • Accurately document calibration data, measurement results, uncertainties, and observations within laboratory software and reporting systems.
  • Generate calibration certificates and reports for customer and internal quality records.
  • Support and maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540, and other applicable quality standards.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory performance and efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory reference standards, environmental controls, and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Collaborate with quality personnel, technicians, and customers to resolve measurement-related issues and provide technical guidance when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment while following all company safety policies and procedures.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Dimensional Calibration Technician to join our growing metrology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision measurement, dimensional inspection, and calibration of mechanical measuring equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring that customer and laboratory measurement instruments meet established accuracy requirements through calibration, inspection, adjustment, and documentation in accordance with industry standards.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of quality and traceability. This position plays a vital role in supporting customer quality systems and upholding our reputation as a trusted provider of calibration services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate and certify dimensional measurement instruments including:
    • Micrometers.
    • Calipers.
    • Height gauges.
    • Dial indicators
    • Bore gauges.
    • Pin gauges.
    • Thread gauges.
    • Gage blocks.
    • Torque measuring devices.
    • Other precision measurement equipment.
  • Perform dimensional calibrations and inspections using established procedures, industry standards, and manufacturer specifications.
