Base pay range

$17.50/hr - $30.20/hr

This role involves creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items, requiring artistic talent and attention to detail. The Bakery Decorator plays a key role in providing outstanding service and maintaining quality standards, while supporting Food Safety and compliance duties.

Job Responsibilities

1. Assemble, fill, and decorate bakery items following standard procedures.
2. Build, ice, and decorate cakes, managing production and spoilage records.
3. Prioritize production and suggest adjustments as needed.
4. Merchandise products and ensure freshness and proper rotation.
5. Support and guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
6. Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
7. Deliver excellent customer service, addressing needs promptly.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the workspace.
9. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties, including signage and pricing accuracy.
10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

1. Proficient in cake and pastry decorating, including piping and decorative flowers.
2. Knowledge of color theory for blending and palette coordination.
3. Ability to use various icings and apply proper techniques.
4. Follow recipes and procedures, manage time effectively.
5. Safe handling of knives and equipment.
6. Basic math skills for recipes.
7. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
8. Ability to meet customer service standards.
9. Work ethic and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

1. 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience.
2. Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice program or equivalent experience.
3. Preferred: experience in professional bakery or grocery retail.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

1. Lift up to 50 pounds.
2. Stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour shift.
3. Use hands for grasping, manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
4. Perform bending, twisting, squatting, reaching.
5. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures.
6. Work in wet and dry conditions, flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays.
7. Use tools and equipment, including knives and heavy machinery.
8. May require ladder use.
