Job summary

Harmons Grocery in Midvale, UT is seeking a Bakery Cake Decorator responsible for maintaining quality cake products, mixing, baking, assembling and decorating cakes, receiving and storing product, and delivering exceptional customer service.

You will follow recipes, manage inventory and signage, and ensure clean, safe bakery operations while providing friendly service to customers and supporting the Bakery Manager.

Qualifications

• Must enjoy working with and handling bakery products.

• Ability to read and follow a recipe.
• Basic math skills for halving or doubling recipes.
• Knowledge of baking, setting, and assembling procedures for pastries.
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follows store policies and procedures.
• Maintains quality and freshness of bakery products.
• Manages product assortment and inventory for the Bakery.
• Ensures pricing accuracy and correct signage for all items.
• Keeps the Bakery clean, sanitized, and presentable.
• Delivers excellent customer service to customers.
• Follows production sheets to maintain inventory levels of cakes.
• Mixes, bakes, assembles, and decorates cakes for sale and back-stock.
• Decorates cakes for sale and custom orders.
• Prepares frosting for decorating.
• Communicates with the Store Director and Bakery Manager.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to maintain quality standards and product levels of all cake products in the Bakery. This person will be mixing, baking, assembling and decorating cakes, receiving and storing product, and providing exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
• Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the Bakery provides
• Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the Bakery
• Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
• Ensures the Bakery is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
• Delivers excellent customer service to all customers
• Follows production sheets to ensure appropriate inventory levels of Harmons' cakes
• Mixes, bakes, assembles, and decorates cakes for sale and to keep as back-stock, quickly and efficiently
• Decorates cakes for sale and for custom orders
• Make frosting to be used for cake decorating
• Communicates openly and frequently with Store Director and Bakery Manager

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned .

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED preferred; one year of pastry and/or cake decorating experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Must enjoy working with and handling bakery products
• Should have a passion for pastries and other bakery items and enjoy eating them
• Ability to read and follow a recipe
• Basic math skills used to half or double recipes
• Knowledge of baking, setting, and assembling procedures and times for pastries
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures
• Excellent organization and planning skills
• Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with customers and fellow associates
• Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
• Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized techniques
