Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking a part-time cafeteria worker to assist in meal preparation, service, and sanitation, ensuring a safe and sanitary kitchen and serving area. You will help with setting up for service, monitoring food temperatures per HACCP guidelines, operating and cleaning equipment, and assisting with inventory and basic cash handling as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in food service is preferred.
• Knowledge of HACCP or food safety principles is beneficial.
• Ability to operate basic kitchen equipment and perform cleaning tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation and service of foods and beverages according to guidelines.
• Sets up for service and serves meals to students and staff; stores leftovers per instructions.
• Monitors food temperatures and records HACCP data to ensure safety and quality.
• Operates and cleans kitchen equipment such as ovens, warmers, steam tables, mixers, slicers and dishwashers.
• Cleans work areas and handles waste disposal.
• Attends in-service trainings as required.
• May handle cash register operations, collect monies, and balance receipts as needed.
• May assist with inventory and generating bank deposits.

Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for the onsite preparation and set up, serving and sanitation of the meal program. Monitors and maintains kitchen and cafeteria areas for the purpose of insuring a safe and sanitary working environment.

Essential Duties

• Assists in preparation/service of a variety of foods/beverages in accordance with established guidelines/work production standards.
• Sets up for service and serves food to students/faculty/staff; stores remaining food and supplies in accordance with instruction and portion control. Ensures that food temperatures are constant and accurate, taking and recording temperatures in accordance with HACCP guidelines. Maintains standards of food quality and food safety.
• Operates and cleans all kitchen equipment including oven, warmers, steam table, mixer, slicer, hot food carts and dishwasher.
• Cleans work areas and deposits refuse in waste receptacles.
• Attends in-service training as needed.
• May operate a cash register, assist with collection of monies received and account for student meals (free and reduced meals/EDS) a la carte items and adult meals.
• May balance receipts with POS, prepare funds for bank deposits and prepare bank deposit reports.
• May assist in taking inventory of food and supplies.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
