Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate preferred.
- Dependability—punctuality, reliability, steady high-quality performance and meeting deadlines.
- Prior experience in food service is preferred.
- Proven ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
- Fluency in English sufficient to allow the applicant to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written instructions, recipes, and other communications essential for the safe and effective performance of the position.
- Able to work well with others and possess a strong degree of adaptability.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: The Cafeteria Manager.
JOB GOALS: To provide prompt, courteous service to the student body and the staff. To ensure all students have access to a healthy, nutritious meal.
General Responsibilities
- Working all of the following areas on a rotating schedule: Sink & Serve, Salad Station, Slicing-Storeroom, Sandwich Room, Cash Register, Rounds Person, Cleaning Duties, Following Sanitation and Hygiene Practices.
Sectional Responsibilities
- CASHIER: 1. Recognize a reimbursable meal. 2. Record all transactions in appropriate categories. 3. Responsible for cash transactions at the register. 4. Close register out at end of day. 5. In between lunches performs duties of general worker.
- ICE CREAM ROOM: 1. Stock and record all items used for the day’s sales. 2. Maintain inventory of stock. 3. Perform cashier duties. 4. Assume general worker duties when possible.
- SANDWICH ROOM: 1. Ascertain and order needs for menu production as provided by Café Manager. 2. Prepare daily selections. 3. Record and maintain production records and daily counts. 4. Maintain safe food temperatures and sanitation procedures. 5. Assume cashier duties. 6. Help in general worker duties.
- SLICER: 1. Slice all cold cuts and other needs for sandwich room and main line. 2. Maintain order in back storeroom. 3. Stock rotation and sanitation procedures related to slicing duties. 4. Clean laundry, towels as needed. 5. Assist in dish room and general kitchen duties.
- DISHROOM: 1. Run the dishwasher for all lunches. 2. Check and record water temperatures each lunch. 3. Clean machine daily and descale weekly. 4. Assist in general kitchen duties.
- SNACKBREAK (7:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M.): 1. Prepare snack sheets and collect money for orders. 2. Oversee filing of orders and distribute to shop representatives. 3. Responsible for all food sales during Snack Break.
- CAFETERIA STAFF 4. Oversee student workers. 5. Order products needed for daily usage.
- GENERAL KITCHEN WORKER DUTIES: 1. Assist in any food preparations as needed. 2. Fill in any workstation when needed. 3. Help with cleanup and keep work area sanitized and safe. 4. All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements
- This position is medium work; you must be able to stand up to six hours per day and lift 25-30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
- You will frequently be required to walk, stand, stoop, squat, or bend during your workday.
- You must possess the manual dexterity and visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodations, to operate kitchen equipment and cash registers and use kitchen tools, including knives.
Evaluation
The Cafeteria Manager will evaluate performance of this position.
Schedule & Terms of Employment
- All Positions: School Year (182 days from September - June)
- 7:15 AM to 1:45 PM

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $15.91 to $26.51 Per Hour
