Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls is seeking a Food Service Associate to manage cafeteria operations, cashiering, and dining areas. The role requires strong customer service and computer skills, with duties spanning inventory, temperature checks, and health‑department records.

The position includes a 5:00am–1:30pm shift with rotating weekends/holidays, with pay range $17.50–$21.50 per hour. Benefits include PTO from day 1 and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain all areas of the cafeteria, including dish room, serving and dining areas, and cashiering.
• Restock and inventory hot and cold foods; display and replenish as needed.
• Operate cash terminal, print and reconcile cash reports, and deposit cash per security procedures.
• Record temperatures of foods and maintain related records for health dept./accreditation.
• Assist with catering, inventory restocking, and daily cleaning per Serve Safe and department standards.

Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewResponsible for all aspects of customer service in the cafeteria, cashier island, dish room, deli, dining room and vending restocking.What you will doResponsible for all areas of the cafeteria to include, dish room, serving and dining areas as well as cashiering. Obtains, inventories, displays and replenishes hot and cold foods as needed.Notifies security to retrieve and secure daily banks, and replenish coins or currency for cafeteria operation as necessary.Operates cash terminal. Prints appropriate reports and reconciles the audit to the cash drawer total. Deposits the cash in the Security depository with an escort.Records temperatures of hot and cold foods, refrigerators and freezers. Assists with the collection and maintenance of other records as needed by the State and local Health Department, Joint Commission accreditation and OSHA, set Department standards or as otherwise by law.Assists with catering functions including assembly, display and clean-up.Responsible for cafeteria inventory restocking, and signage.Completes assigned daily cleaning schedule within department including, but not limited to individual work area, equipment, pans, and small wares in accordance with Serve Safe, State and local Health Department and set department standards.Documents abnormal or unusual situations. Documents and gathers information for any accident/injury or other incident which may occur in the cafeteria or immediate areas. Documents Code Red information to be given to Manager/Supervisor.Responsible for delivering excellent customer service by utilizing the appropriate scripts developed for Food and Nutrition Services.Responsible for all aspects of stocking and cleaning the cafeteria dining room, patio area, including tables, chairs, floor, cabinets, trash receptacles and microwaves.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
