Job summary

Touro College & University System is seeking an Assistant Cook to support daily food preparation, cooking, and serving in the university cafeteria. You will work with the Cook to ensure meals meet recipes, portion standards, and kosher guidelines while maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment.

This role emphasizes teamwork with kitchen staff and adherence to sanitation procedures and training requirements. Prior food service experience is preferred, and a high school diploma is recommended.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety.
• Ability to follow kosher dietary guidelines and kitchen procedures.
• Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
• Ability to follow recipes and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation and cooking according to recipes and portion standards.
• Prepare ingredients including cutting, peeling, slicing, and measuring.
• Follow kosher guidelines and kitchen procedures in all steps.
• Assist with serving meals to students, faculty, and staff.
• Follow sanitation and safety procedures.
• Receive, store, label, date, and rotate food products.
• Monitor supplies and notify when running low.
• Assist with local pickup of ingredients and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and surfaces.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely.
• Report equipment issues to Cafeteria Manager.
• Complete required training in food safety, kosher kitchen, and workplace safety.
