Job summary

Berkeley Bowl is seeking a friendly Café Associate to provide prompt, accurate service and help operate the cafe to meet department goals. You will fill customer orders, rotate stock by date, keep signage current, and assist with special requests while maintaining hygienic prep and display areas.

Following CURFFL and HACCP food-safety guidelines, you will report shortages to the supervisor and participate in opening/closing procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Food Safety certification preferred.
• Basic math skills required.
• Ability to read and follow English instructions.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.

Job description

Purpose

To provide prompt, friendly, helpful well-informed service to customers and assist in operations of the Cafe to help meet department goals.

Responsibilities

Customer Service Fill customer orders in prompt, friendly, courteous manner.

Report customer suggestions, comments and complaints to Café supervisor.

Stock Cafe cases and displays fully to give feeling of abundance.

Ensure freshness by rotating, keeping batches separate by date.

Ensure all items are appropriately priced and signed.

Keep menu boards up to date.

Ensure that pricing is correct.

Assist customers with questions and special orders.

Department Maintenance Pull short-date items and properly account for before disposal.

Maintain Café cases, displays, and prep and storage areas in sanitary and orderly condition, following established procedures.

Clean up spills.

Follow food safety and sanitation regulations maintaining correct temperatures cooking, cooling and storing according to CURFFL and HACCP.

Alert Café supervisor to low inventories and out-of–stocks of Café products and supplies.

Use department equipment safely and as intended.

Advise Food Service Manager of equipment repair needs.

Carry out established opening and closing procedures.

Follow established guidelines when using knives.

Food Preparation Following specification of Café supervisor, prepare items as assigned.

Maintain proper storage and labeling procedures.

Pull pre-made productions from the kitchen and stock in Kitchen cases as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

Basic math skills required

Familiarity with natural foods, nutrition and food sensitives.

Understanding of written and spoken English

Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.

Handle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Training

Pay Range

$19.61 - $29.50 per hour
