Job summary

Frymaster, a Welbilt brand, seeks a CAD Designer I in Shreveport, LA to support engineers with basic design and drafting tasks using Creo and SolidWorks. You will prepare layouts, document product specifications, and help manage ECOs in the ERP system under supervision.

Entry-level candidates with a High School Diploma and 0–2 years in mechanical design are encouraged to apply; training will cover company standards, reusable designs, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in mechanical design or related field.

As CAD Designer I, under close supervision of Engineers and/or Engineering Managers, the CAD Designer I is responsible for completing basic level Design/Drafting assignments by following prescribed procedures and standards. Prepares design layouts and product configurations of components using 3D solid modeling design packages (e.g. Creo, SolidWorks). Responsible for documentation of all product specifications via engineering drawings, specifications, product structure in business ERP systems, and Engineering Change Management.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this position is based in Shreveport, LA.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for creation of product documentation and monitoring the Engineering Change process.
• Ensures conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policy and procedures.
• Works closely with engineers and design teams to ensure coordination of designs.
• Integrates the work of technical experts into projects and assignments; details designs based on direction received.
• Participates/contributes in cross-functional design teams.
• Makes appropriate decisions using decision support tools and critical thinking.
• Clearly communicates the results and underlying risks involved with their efforts.
• Prepares engineering documents such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), Prototype Part Requests, etc.
• Uses ERP systems to release changes via ECO, determine product structure, BoMs, Where Used, and Product Master attributes.
• Supports building engineering prototypes.
• Responds to, identifies, and recommends solutions to manufacturing and quality problems.
• Provides product information, as needed (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Tech. Services, etc.).
• Performs other relevant duties or tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Education & Experience

• High School Diploma with preparatory training / Technical Diploma or Certificate / Associate Degree
• 0-2 years of experience in a related mechanical design field with an associate degree or a 1-2 year diploma in design field program.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in design field without a formal education in design related field.

Skills & Abilities

• Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
• In-depth knowledge of Engineering design software (e.g. Creo, SolidWorks) and computer skills (MS Office, CAD, ERP, etc.).
• Ability to perform basic design drafting tasks via standard drawing techniques under close supervision.
• Basic knowledge of a variety of raw materials, including plastics, aluminum, and stainless steel.
• Application of standard formulas/manuals for computations to determine material quantities, load capacities, strengths, etc.
• Ability to read and use measuring devices; ability to operate standard office equipment.
• Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed.

Working Conditions

Computer use in an office environment, occasionally lift up to 30lbs, occasionally enter manufacturing area where PPE is required and employee would be subjected to noise, heavy industrial equipment, and moving vehicles.
