Position Summary:
The Design Engineer II is responsible for engineering initiatives related to product design of precast concrete panels for residential and light commercial buildings, as well as general concrete products. The role includes providing technical support to internal and external customers, with expertise in general building construction, precast concrete, energy codes, and The Florida Building Code.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Convert exterior wall designs from existing house plans to a prefabricated precast concrete system design, and design other precast products to meet customer and regulatory specifications. Create complete drawing packages and calculations for building official approval.
- Provide technical support to the outside sales team with specifications, solution recommendations, and estimates & proposals. Understand product costing and ensure accurate estimates.
- Participate in meetings with building officials, engineers, and architects.
- Create submittal packages, proposal drawings, and production drawing sets.
- Produce Bills of Materials (BOM) from manufacturing instructions, drawings, and other tools.
- Provide quality review of drawings before submittal to sales and operations.
- Collaborate with Quality Control to understand specifications, perform first article validation, and assist production staff at the Florida plant.
- Implement continual improvement suggestions using software automation and process streamlining to reduce time, errors, and costs.
- Represent the engineering team in meetings with production, quality, sales, and project managers.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a similar field.
- 2-4 years of experience in residential or building construction.
- Interest in pursuing EIT certification.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD or AutoCAD Architecture.
- Experience in design, drafting, and estimating.
- Understanding of drafting standards & principles.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with teams.
- Intermediate mathematical skills for calculations related to design.
- Attention to detail and ability to read technical drawings.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of precast concrete design and residential construction practices.
- Desire for professional growth and development.
