Job description

Job Overview

We are on several winning teams. Davis Unlimited Information Technologies, Inc (DUIT) is looking for cable technicians with at least 2 years of experience to join our IT team. Locations are in various parts of Maryland, such as Columbia.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist in running cables for building or racking of equipment or other cabling services.
• Read drawings to establish correct wiring/cable runs.
• Install cabling from transport/wiring closets to the customer access outlet with minimal assistance.
• Install cabling both under floor and above the ceiling in cable trays, troughs, wiring baskets, harnesses, and J-hooks.
• Field terminate cabling utilizing multiple types of connectors and technical techniques.
• Field test cabling for performance specifications.
• Label cables, perform cable management in racks and termination shelves.
• Terminate various types of copper connectors.
• Discuss pathways, spaces, bonding and grounding, and firestopping.
• Choose the correct tool or methodology for specific cabling tasks.

What You Will Get to Do

• Perform cable terminology, testing, rack preparation, layout, installation, and documentation.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and handle physical tasks necessary for cable installation.

• Minimum of two (2) years technical experience in IT cable installation and termination.
• BICSI Installer 1 certification required, or two (2) additional years of experience may substitute for certification.
• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of cable termination, testing, rack preparation, layout, installation, and documentation.
• Background security check required; prior completed check is a plus.

Preferred

• Minimum of five (5) years technical experience in IT cable installation and termination.
• Team leadership, engineering, and design knowledge to meet technical specifications.
• In-depth knowledge of termination equipment, methodologies, and splicing techniques.
• Valid BICSI Installer 2, Copper or Installer 2, Optical Fiber certification desired; three additional years of experience may substitute for certification.
