Job summary

TEKsystems in Fort Myers, FL is seeking a Contract to Hire Cable Technician to install and maintain low-voltage cabling systems. You will pull, route, terminate, and test CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A and fiber, with a focus on safety and documentation.

The role is fully onsite, pays $20–$25 per hour, and requires physical stamina, blueprint reading, and familiarity with crimpers, punch-down tools, and cable testers. Opportunities to grow with a national technology services leader.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of low-voltage cabling systems and standard practices.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
• Proficiency with crimpers, punch-down tools, and cable testers.
• Ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.
• BICSI certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cable installation, routing and management of cat5e/cat6/cat6a and fiber optic cabling.
• Terminate copper and fiber connectors; test and certify links with testing equipment.
• Build-out of racks, cabinets, cable pathways, and supporting hardware.
• Troubleshoot and repair cabling faults and connectivity issues.
• Adhere to safety procedures (OSHA, NFPA) and document as-built drawings.

Description

Cable Installation: Pull, route, and manage CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling through cable trays, racks, and conduits. Termination & Testing: Terminate copper (patch panels, jacks) and fiber (LC, SC) connectors; test and certify links with equipment like Fluke analyzers. Infrastructure Build-out: Install racks, cabinets, cable pathways, and supporting hardware. System Maintenance: Troubleshoot, identify, and repair cabling faults and connectivity issues. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures (OSHA, NFPA), including safe use of ladders and lift equipment. Documentation: Label all cables and ports, and update documentation or as-built drawings

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
