Job summary

Raleigh Woodworks is seeking a dependable Cabinet Shop Technician to join our custom cabinetry production team in Raleigh, NC. The role begins with sanding and preparing cabinet components for finishing, with opportunities to cross-train in cabinet construction or spray finishing as skills develop.

Starting pay ranges from $20–$24 per hour based on experience, with benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, and a weekday daytime schedule.

Qualifications

• At least one year of professional hands-on experience in cabinetry, woodworking, furniture production, millwork, automotive/body preparation, professional painting, or finishing.
• Experience in sanding and surface preparation, cabinet construction or assembly, or professional spray finishing.
• Ability to read a tape measure and follow production instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify surface defects.

Responsibilities

• Sand raw wood, plywood, MDF, primed parts, and finished cabinet components.
• Fill nail holes, seams, scratches, and other surface imperfections.
• Prepare cabinet parts between primer and finish coats.
• Inspect surfaces and identify defects before moving to the next production stage.
• Label, organize, and protect cabinet parts throughout production.
• Assist with cabinet assembly, shelves, drawer components, hardware, and other shop tasks.
• Safely handle and move cabinetry and materials.
• Maintain sanding equipment, dust-control systems, and an organized work area.
• Follow job-specific instructions and Raleigh Woodworks' quality standards.
• Cross-train in cabinet building or spray finishing as skills and performance develop.

Cabinet Shop Technician – Sanding, Assembly & Finishing

Full-time | Monday–Friday | $20–$24 per hour

Raleigh Woodworks is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Cabinet Shop Technician to join our custom cabinetry production team.

This position will begin primarily with sanding and preparing cabinet components for finishing. Over time, the right person will have the opportunity to cross-train in cabinet construction, spray finishing, or both.

We are looking for someone who already has professional experience in at least one related area, such as cabinet or furniture sanding, cabinet construction, woodworking, millwork, professional painting, or spray finishing. You do not need to have experience in every area—we can teach the right person additional skills.

What You’ll Do

• Sand raw wood, plywood, MDF, primed parts, and finished cabinet components

• Fill nail holes, seams, scratches, and other surface imperfections

• Prepare cabinet parts between primer and finish coats

• Inspect surfaces carefully and identify defects before components move to the next production stage

• Label, organize, and protect cabinet parts throughout production

• Assist with cabinet assembly, shelves, drawer components, hardware, and other shop tasks

This is primarily a shop position—not an installation or general construction position. The work can be repetitive and requires patience, consistency, and close attention to detail.

What We’re Looking For

• At least one year of professional hands-on experience in cabinetry, woodworking, furniture production, millwork, automotive/body preparation, professional painting, or finishing

• Experience in at least one of the following:

  • Sanding and surface preparation

  • Cabinet construction or assembly

  • Professional spray finishing

• Ability to read a tape measure and follow written production instructions

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize surface defects

• Dependable attendance and punctuality

• Willingness to perform sanding and preparation work as a primary responsibility

• Ability to accept feedback, correct mistakes, and learn new processes

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a small production team

• Commitment to working safely and using required protective equipment

• Ability to lift and maneuver materials weighing approximately 50 pounds, with team assistance for heavier items

Experience with custom cabinetry, paint-grade woodwork, cabinet coatings, shop drawings, hinges, drawer slides, or spray equipment is helpful but not required.

Pay and Growth

Starting pay is $20–$24 per hour, based on demonstrated experience and skill.

The top of the range is intended for someone who can already work independently in cabinet construction, professional finishing, or advanced cabinet preparation.
