Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints or drawings to plan cutting or shaping operations.
• Mark outlines or dimensions on parts or lumber stock.
• Match materials for color, grain, or texture.
• Set up and operate woodworking machines to cut and shape parts.
• Glue, fit, and clamp parts to form complete units.
• Drive nails or other fasteners to reinforce joints.
• Sand and prep surfaces for finishing.
• Install hardware such as hinges, catches, and pulls.
• Follow safety and workplace policies.

Summary

The Display Maker sets up and operates a variety of woodworking machines and uses hand-tools to manufacture and fabricate high end retail displays using a variety of materials including wood, metal, acrylic, and beyond. This position will integrate various materials into the store displays including plastics, metals and electronics.

• Studies blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed
• Marks outline or dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock
• Matches materials for color, grain, or texture
• Sets up and operates woodworking machines such as power saws, jointer, mortiser, tenoner, molder, and shaper, to cut and shape parts from wood stock
• Trims component parts of joints to ensure snug fit
• Bores holes for insertion of screws or dowels
• Glues, fits, and clamps parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit
• Drives nails or other fasteners into joints at designated places to reinforce joints
• Sands and scrapes surfaces and joints of articles to prepare articles for finishing
• Repairs high grade articles of furniture
• Dips, brushes, or sprays assembled articles with protective or decorative materials such as stain, varnish, or paint
• Installs hardware such as hinges, catches, and drawer pulls

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Walking, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting may be required throughout the workday.
• Flexibility to travel between multiple PD locations
