Job summary

Summit Public Schools in California is seeking a Literacy Intervention Tutor to deliver targeted, evidence-based literacy support in person across multiple sites. You will work with students not yet meeting grade-level standards, aligning lessons with EL Education, Odell Education, and AP coursework, and collaborating with Lead Teachers and literacy leadership.

The role emphasizes data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and timely communication with teachers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Experience tutoring or mentoring middle/high school students in reading or writing.
• Ability to implement established lessons and adjust during tutoring.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate with teachers.
• Commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching.

Responsibilities

• Guide students through targeted practice in foundational reading, close reading, evidence-based writing, and academic vocabulary.
• Pre-teach and re-teach key concepts to access core literacy instruction.
• Align tutoring with grade-level curriculum (EL, Odell, AP).
• Deliver small-group and individual literacy tutoring during Student Support Blocks.
• Use diagnostics and course data to adjust tutoring strategies.
• Share progress with teachers and site leadership.
