Qualifications

  • Experience building C++ applications with Make on Linux.
  • Experience using Linux command line (RHEL).
  • Git-based version control and code review experience.
  • Experience debugging with GDB/Valgrind or sanitizers.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain C++ applications for U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
  • Modernize existing C++ apps and migrate legacy software to a Kubernetes-based platform.
  • Package C++ applications as containers for Kubernetes-based runtimes.
  • Write unit tests, maintain test coverage, and perform component/integration testing.
  • Debug and troubleshoot defects with test engineers to reproduce and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with product leads to clarify requirements and deliver features in an agile sprint.
  • Produce clean, well-documented code following CM practices.

Description

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Navy Programs team. In this role, you will support the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of mission-critical software systems supporting U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, and shore-based platforms. You will play a key role in supporting operational readiness through the delivery of secure, maintainable, and reliable software solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring solid experience in C++ development on Linux, including modern C++ (C++11 and newer), unit testing, and disciplined software engineering practices. This position is well suited for an engineer with a few years of experience who enjoys solving hard technical problems and working closely with product leads and testers in an agile team. The work involves building and modernizing applications for deployment on a Kubernetes-based platform. It directly supports U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.

This is a full-time position based in Middletown, RI. The position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret Clearance. The annual base salary is $125,000 – $134,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills.

In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, 401(k) plan with matching company contributions, paid time off, holidays, and tuition and training reimbursement.

Requirements
You’ll be responsible for:
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining C++ (C++11 and newer) applications supporting U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
  • Modernizing existing C++ applications and supporting migration of legacy software to a Kubernetes – based platform.
  • Building and packaging C++ applications as containers for deployment to a Kubernetes – based runtime environment.
  • Writing unit tests, maintaining test coverage, and executing component and integration testing in lab environments.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting software defects and working with test engineers to reproduce and resolve issues.
  • Collaborating with product leads to understand requirements, clarify scope, and deliver features within an agile/scrum sprint cadence.
  • Producing clear, maintainable, well-documented code that follows program coding and configuration management practices.
Required Skills:
  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 2–4 years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ development, including C++11 or newer features (smart pointers, move semantics, the STL, and multithreading).
  • Experience building C++ applications with Make or a similar build system on Linux.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), at the command line.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and code review workflows.
  • Experience debugging and troubleshooting software defects with tools such as GDB, Valgrind, or sanitizers.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies and collaborative team environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within technical teams and customer environments.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience containerizing applications with Docker or Podman.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
  • Scripting experience in Python or bash.
  • Experience with DDS, AMQP, or other middleware for real-time or distributed messaging.
  • Experience on DoD or Navy programs.
  • Familiarity with managing/maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test and deployment workflows in tools such as Gitlab, Jenkins or Bamboo.
