DESE Research, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer (Junior to Mid-Level) to advance mission-critical software for a defense system.

You will develop in C++, support Ada components, and migrate a bare-metal app to containers using Docker/Podman, while enhancing tests and reliability. You will collaborate with software, systems, QA, and DevOps teams, review and expand unit tests, and help integrate containerized workflows into daily builds and regression tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong experience developing software in C++.
• Proficiency with Docker or Podman for building, running, testing, and troubleshooting containerized apps.
• Experience authoring and maintaining Dockerfiles/Podmanfiles.
• Experience packaging dependencies, configuration, and runtime into container images.
• Understanding of container concepts: images, containers, layers, volumes, env vars, networking, registries.
• Experience troubleshooting defects and software integration.
• Familiarity with SDLC, quality practices, and configuration management.
• Experience in collaborative teams using peer reviews and version control.
• Ability to work independently in a customer-facing environment.
• Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsabilités

• Develop, modify, and maintain software primarily in C++.
• Support Ada software development when required.
• Migrate bare-metal apps to containerized environments.
• Analyze dependencies, OS needs, configuration, interfaces to enable containerization.
• Create and maintain Dockerfiles, Podmanfiles, build scripts.
• Build, run, test, debug, and troubleshoot container images.
• Ensure functionality and performance in containerized deployments.
• Review unit tests and expand coverage with new tests.
• Improve automated testing to support daily builds and regression tests.
• Integrate build/test/validation into CI/CD workflows.
• Analyze defects, troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions.
• Participate in design reviews and modernization planning.
• Collaborate with software, systems, QA, and DevOps teams to improve quality and deployment readiness.
• Contribute to documentation and testing standards.
• Support continuous improvement for reliability and sustainment.
