Job description

Stewart & Stevenson Manufacturing Technology is hiring a Buyer II at 10750 Telge Road, Houston, TX 77095.

The role involves overseeing and coordinating purchasing activities and tracking all parts necessary for current manufacturing jobs. Preferred candidates will have manufacturing experience, especially with fabrication drawings, and the ability to read prints, tolerances, material types, and welding symbols.

Responsibilities

1. Ensure the best pricing and delivery dates for each part.
2. Stay informed of the parts status for each job on the build schedule.
3. Provide technical support and training to other buyers.
4. Supply weekly parts status reports to the purchasing manager before weekly meetings.
5. Coordinate with logistics to move units between locations.
6. Follow up daily on all open purchase orders.
7. Ensure all ordered parts are delivered at least one week before the build start date.
8. Work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
9. Maintain a strong commitment to safety culture.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Skill in analyzing technical specifications and bids.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of warehouse and inventory operations preferred.
• Experience with inventory software and programs.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills.

Education/Experience

• High School diploma or GED with three years of related experience; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of purchasing practices, materials, products, and the commodity market.

Computer Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
• Familiarity with demand forecasting tools, E3 preferred.
