Job summary

Premier Pump & Power in Vancouver, Washington, is seeking a Buyer I to source materials, components, and services for our manufacturing operations. This role collaborates with Planning, Engineering, Production, Materials, Quality, and suppliers to ensure parts arrive on time while controlling cost and quality.

The ideal candidate is organized, data-savvy, and comfortable using ERP systems, with strong communication skills to adapt to changing priorities and delivery requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review material requirements and purchase assigned components to support the production schedule.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders in the ERP system.
  • Obtain supplier quotations and evaluate pricing, lead times, availability, and other purchasing considerations.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers regarding open purchase orders, delivery dates, shortages, and changing requirements.
  • Expedite critical and past-due materials to minimize production delays.
  • Maintain accurate supplier lead times, pricing, delivery dates, and other purchasing information within the ERP system.
  • Review open purchase orders and proactively identify potential material shortages or delivery issues.
  • Coordinate with Planning and Production to understand material priorities and changing production requirements.
  • Work with Engineering to resolve part, drawing, specification, and supplier questions.
  • Assist Quality and suppliers with the resolution of nonconforming or incorrect materials.
  • Work with Accounting and Receiving to resolve invoice, quantity, pricing, and receiving discrepancies.
  • Request and compare supplier quotes and assist with sourcing new suppliers when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, improved lead times, and improved supplier performance.
  • Develop and maintain productive, professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of purchasing and supply chain processes.
  • Perform other purchasing and supply chain duties as assigned.

Job description

Premier Pump & Power is a fast-moving, engineered-to-order manufacturer of industrial pump systems used in demanding applications across North America. We don’t operate like a slow, bureaucratic OEM—we move fast, solve real problems, and expect our leaders to take ownership.

The Buyer I is responsible for purchasing materials, components, and services required to support our manufacturing operations. This position works closely with Planning, Engineering, Production, Materials, Quality, and suppliers to ensure parts are available when needed while maintaining appropriate cost, quality, and inventory levels.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with data and ERP systems, and able to proactively communicate with suppliers and internal teams when priorities or delivery requirements change.

This is a full-time on-site position located in Vancouver, Washington.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, and business software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Preferred

  • 1–2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, materials, planning, inventory, or a related role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing components such as fabricated steel, machined parts, engines, pumps, electrical components, hardware, or similar industrial products.
  • Basic ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material is a plus.

Compensation
  • The range of our base salary compensation for this role for candidates living in Vancouver, Washington is between $28 to $33.65 per hour. Final offers are determined using multiple factors including experience and level of expertise.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This role may involve lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds, standing, sitting, and using hands for manipulation of materials or equipment. Additionally, you may need to inspect equipment or troubleshoot machinery under varying weather conditions in the factory, with exposure to moderate to loud noise levels. The use of standard Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is strictly required at all times in designated areas.
