Job summary

Hanwha Philly Shipyard is seeking an experienced Purchasing Specialist to manage requisitions, RFQs, bid analyses, and purchase orders in a heavy industrial environment.

The role requires SAP proficiency, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work closely with Production and Engineering to meet project timelines. A BS degree (or equivalent) and at least two years of shipbuilding procurement experience are preferred, with MS Office and SAP experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Purchasing experience in shipbuilding industries & government contracting is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Process purchase requisitions, RFQs, bid analyses, and purchase orders.
  • Use SAP to support purchasing process.
  • Develop negotiation strategies for material, equipment, and services.
  • Coordinate with Production and Engineering to ensure orders meet requirements.
  • Monitor vendor performance and on-time delivery within budget.
  • Manage Material Supply Agreements with project procurement partner.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or abilityrequired.

  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed.
  • Process Purchase Requisitions, Issue Requests for Quotes, develop bid analyses, conductnegotiationsand issue Purchase Orders.
  • Use SAP to supportpurchasingprocess.
  • Develop successful negotiation strategies forpurchaseof material, equipment and services for ship production and yard operations.
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering (where necessary) to ensure that materials,equipmentor services being ordered and delivered will fulfill all requirements.
  • Monitor vendor performance to make sure all orders arrive on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and manage General Stock Items (GSI) list and domestic sourcing.
  • Work with Material Control and Production to input Material Problem Report (MPR) and seek resolution.
  • Document project shipments andmaintainschedule changes.
  • Work closely with Planning to manage Production Need Dates (PNDs) and communicatetoprocurementpartner.
  • Manage Material Supply Agreement with project procurement partner.
  • Maintainlogof monthly materialreceiptand commercial invoices.
  • Support meetingsrequiredfor the project.
  • Conduct market research, obtainquotesand develop estimates for new projects.
  • Work with other Buyers to ensure goodsarriveson time and project milestones are met.
  • Support key stakeholders by providingtimelyupdates and information asrequested.
  • Perform other related duties asrequiredand assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelorof Science or Art college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Purchasing experience in Shipbuilding industries & Government contracting is plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with Access and Power Point.
  • Proficient in SAP.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures aresimilar tothose found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust,fumesand smoke. Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
