Job summary

Amerlux, a leader in architectural lighting, seeks a Buyer for our Oakland NJ facility on-site five days a week. You will procure materials, manage supplier relationships, and coordinate with engineering, production, and logistics to support manufacturing and new product introductions.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in purchasing, manufacturing experience, and familiarity with ERP/MRP tools (Oracle or SAP). Prior experience in lighting is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in Purchasing/Procurement.
• Manufacturing Industry experience required, including use of Supply Chain and ERP/MRP technology applications (Oracle or SAP preferred).
• Lighting Industry experience preferred.

Job description

Amerlux, a leader in architectural lighting, designs and manufacturing of innovative interior and exterior lighting solutions for commercial, retail and supermarket sectors is looking for a Buyer to join our team in our Oakland NJ facility. This position requires being on-site five days per week.

The Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services required for the production of commercial lighting fixtures. This role supports manufacturing operations by ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality sourcing of parts from both domestic and international suppliers. The Buyer will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels, support new product development, and drive supply chain efficiency.

Key responsibilities include supplier selection and negotiation, purchase order management, cost analysis, and coordination of import logistics to meet production schedules and company objectives. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and communication skills, experience in global sourcing, and a solid understanding of manufacturing and supply chain processes within a technical or lighting-related industry. Prior experienceworking as a Purchasing Agent or Buyer in a manufacturing environment purchasing a variety of components is extremely helpful.

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

• Source and procure components, materials, and services required for manufacturing commercial lighting fixtures.
• Identify, qualify, and manage domestic and international suppliers to ensure quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve optimal cost savings and supplier performance.
• Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance with company requirements.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production planning to maintain appropriate stock levels and avoid shortages or excess.
• Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to source components for new product introductions and design changes.
• Evaluate supplier performance through metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
• Coordinate with logistics and customs teams on import documentation, freight arrangements, and delivery schedules.
• Resolve supply issues, discrepancies, and quality concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and contribute to ERP/MRP system accuracy and reporting.
• Stay current with market trends, material costs, and global supply chain developments to identify cost-reduction and risk-mitigation opportunities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and supply chain functions.

Qualifications Include:

• Bachelor Degree.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in Purchasing/Procurement.
• Manufacturing Industry experience required, including use of Supply Chain and ERP/MRP technology applications (Oracle or SAP preferred).
• Lighting Industry experience preferred.

This position will be responsible for participation in the transistion from an Oracle based applications system to a SAP based application system in the next 12 months. Individuals need to be flexible and have used a purchasing application to process their work.

The salary range for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000 annually, based on prior skills and experiences.
