Job summary

UHY-US is seeking a Buyer to join our team in Novi, Michigan. The role focuses on identifying and evaluating new vendors, negotiating pricing, and building strong supplier relationships to support procurement goals.

You will collaborate with Sales, Logistics, Inventory, Finance, and QA to ensure product quality, availability, and profitability while managing the end-to-end procurement process and vendor contracts. Travel to trade shows is possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of purchasing experience; foodservice industry experience preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly with pricing and vendor contracts.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to perform product and cost calculations.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, Text to Columns, formulas).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to sourcing and problem-solving.
  • Ability to travel periodically for trade shows, vendor meetings, and related events.
  • Sales experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and evaluate new vendors and product opportunities that support business needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and monitor vendor performance.
  • Partner with Sales, Logistics, Inventory, Finance, Quality Assurance, and other teams to support procurement goals.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies focused on product availability, cost savings, quality, and profitability.
  • Negotiate and maintain vendor agreements and contracts.
  • Ensure purchased products meet quality, specification, pricing, and delivery requirements.
  • Manage the procurement process from initial request through purchase order and final delivery.
  • Work with Quality Assurance to address product compliance and supplier issues.
  • Research markets, analyze data, and monitor industry trends to identify new opportunities.
  • Attend trade shows and vendor events to identify new products, suppliers, and market opportunities.
  • Plan and lead vendor meetings and follow up on action items.
  • Identify new purchasing opportunities and work with Sales to promote products and support category growth.
  • Support category and product growth strategies with Sales and Leadership.
  • Monitor stocked inventory and develop strategies to improve product movement.
  • Support customer bids by sourcing products, negotiating pricing, and partnering with Sales on proposals.
  • Create and manage purchase orders throughout the procurement lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure procurement activities support profitable business decisions.

A great UHY client is seeking a Buyer. The ideal candidate will have strong purchasing and negotiation experience, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to sourcing new vendors and products.

The Buyer role is an onsite position. This is a direct hire position.

Buyer Responsibilities
