We are seeking an experienced Buyer to manage purchasing activities for a manufacturing operation in the Greater Gainesville area. This position will be responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase orders, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring materials are available to support production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase raw materials, components, supplies, and services based on production requirements.
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders and ensure accurate pricing and delivery dates.
- Source and qualify new suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and other purchasing conditions.
- Monitor supplier performance, quality, and on-time delivery.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure material requirements are met.
- Review inventory levels and MRP/ERP requirements to determine purchasing needs.
- Track open orders and expedite materials when necessary to prevent production delays.
- Review supplier quotes and compare pricing, availability, and lead times.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor information, and pricing.
- Assist with cost-reduction initiatives and identify opportunities for improved supplier performance.
- Resolve purchasing, delivery, quality, and invoice discrepancies with suppliers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing and supply chain functions.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in buying, purchasing, procurement, or supply chain, preferably in manufacturing.
- Experience purchasing raw materials, mechanical components, electrical components, or fabricated parts.
- Experience working with an ERP/MRP system.
- Ability to read and understand purchase orders, specifications, and basic engineering documentation.
- Strong negotiation, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred but not required with relevant experience.
