Job summary

Delta College’s Business & Technology Division is seeking a Lab Student Assistant to support Construction, CNC, Welding, Automotive, HVAC, and CPI labs. This position offers flexible scheduling aligned with your class workload.

You will assist instructors with lab setup, cleanup, and instructional materials, and help develop teaching aids and lab signage while maintaining a safe, organized work environment. The role requires good communication and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal and professional communication skills required.
• Ability to read a tape measure is essential for technical labs.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for Automotive lab tasks.
• Enrollment in Construction, CNC/MIT, Welding, Automotive, HVAC or CPI programs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, students, and community members.
• Communicate professionally with lab staff and peers.

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY : Delta College’s Business and Technology Division prepares students for careers in business, industry, and higher education transfer with a wide array of technical knowledge and hands‑on experience. This position is a combined support role serving various technical labs across the division, including:

• Residential Construction: Learn and assist in rough carpentry, house framing, blueprint reading, material handling, tool usage, concrete work, and both interior and exterior finishing.
• CNC / Manufacturing & Industrial Technology ( MIT ): Assist with machine tools, blueprint reading, tool setup, maintenance, CNC programming, and quality checks using micrometers and calipers.
• Welding: Support instruction and operations in MIG , TIG , and Stick welding labs.
• Automotive: Provide assistance in labs focused on service tech training and the GM ASEP program.
• HVAC : Assist with troubleshooting, maintenance, and lab setup in refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning.
• Chemical Process Technology ( CPI ): Support lab activities related to food processing, oil refining, power generation, and wastewater treatment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING :

Required Qualifications

• Interpersonal and professional communication skills
• Good organizational skills and ability to follow directions
• MUST be able to read a tape measure (applicable to technical labs)
• MUST possess a valid driver’s license (for Automotive lab assistants)
• Experience with or enrollment in relevant programs is preferred (Construction, CNC / MIT , Welding, Automotive, HVAC , CPI )

• Must be enrolled at Delta College and maintain a minimum of six (6) credit hours during employment
