Stenger & Stenger is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support the planning, development, and ongoing improvement of business applications, software integrations, and workflow automation. You will act as a liaison between business stakeholders and software teams, translating operational needs into clear requirements and ensuring alignment across the full software development lifecycle.

The role is in-office, located in Grand Rapids, MI, with no remote option.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or similar role.
  • Experience supporting software-development, application-implementation, system-integration, or workflow-automation projects.
  • Experience using business-process modeling tools (Visio, draw.io).
  • Able to gather, analyze, document, and validate requirements.
  • Experience creating user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Familiar with SDLC practices from requirements to production support.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid methodologies.

About the Role

We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of business applications, software integrations, workflow automation, and technology-enabled processes. This position will serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and software engineering teams. The Business Systems Analyst will help departments define business problems, evaluate possible solutions, establish product scope, and translate operational needs into clear and testable requirements. The successful candidate will participate throughout the software development lifecycle from initial discovery and application scoping and requirements, and maintaining a clarifying presence during development, testing, and deployment; this role will also provide post-implementation review. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, technical curiosity, and the ability to work effectively with business users, software developers, database professionals, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity personnel, and third-party vendors.

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, MI office. Not being offered with a remote of hybrid option.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with business stakeholders and SMEs to document current operational challenges, objectives, workflows, and technology needs.
  • Facilitate communications both written and discussion
  • Help distinguish essential requirements from future enhancements and support the definition of minimum viable solutions.
  • Develop clear business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, use cases, business rules, and acceptance criteria.
  • Define application and functional scope, including objectives, users, workflows, data requirements, integrations, dependencies, assumptions, constraints, exclusions, MVP, and out-of-scope features.
  • Participate in backlog refinement, estimation of scoping efforts, and assist inclarifications around releases.
  • Analyze data sources, file layouts, application interfaces, validation rules, and system-to-system dependencies.
  • Confirm that completed solutions meet documented requirements and achieve the intended business outcome.
  • Support implementation planning, change management, user communication, training, and transition to production support.
  • Maintain product and application documentation throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Participate in post-implementation reviews and recommend opportunities for continued improvement.
  • Ensure that security, privacy, access control, auditability, records retention, and regulatory requirements are considered during solution design.
Required Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience as a Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Product Manager, Application Analyst, Product Analyst, or in a comparable role.
  • Experience supporting software-development, application-implementation, system-integration, or workflow-automation projects.
  • Experience using Microsoft Visio, draw.io, or other business-process modeling tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, document, and validate business and technical requirements.
  • Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, and process documentation.
  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, including requirements, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid project-delivery methodologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, computer science, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a legal, collections, financial, healthcare, or similarly regulated and data-sensitive environment.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, data structures, and basic SQL queries.
  • Experience with API concepts, application integrations, and structured data formats such as JSON, XML, CSV, and fixed-width files.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or a comparable project and backlog-management platform.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Power Platform, or related Microsoft technologies.
  • Exposure to robotic process automation, workflow automation, business‑intelligence, or reporting platforms.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, role-based access, least privilege, audit logging, secure development, and change-management practices.
