Job summary

Lonza United States is seeking a highly experienced Business Process Architect – EHS to advance and harmonize Environmental, Health & Safety and Product Compliance processes across our global network. You will partner with business and IT teams to drive SAP S/4HANA EHS capabilities and sustain improvements.

The role requires strong knowledge of EHS and product compliance, experience with GLM, and ability to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, or related field.
• Professional EHS certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar) are a plus.
• Strong knowledge of EHS and Product Compliance business processes, SAP environments, and global deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead SAP S/4HANA EHS deployment across multiple waves.
• Serve as business process expert for Incident, Action & Task Management, Inspection & Audit, Risk Assessment, and Global Label Management.
• Collaborate with global EHS, Product Compliance, IT, and program stakeholders to align requirements with SAP capabilities.
• Drive adoption of standardized processes and harmonization across sites.
• Develop training, documentation, and change management materials for user adoption.
• Support system testing, validation, and go-live readiness activities.
• Provide guidance on EHS regulatory compliance within SAP-enabled processes.

Business Process Architect – EHS

Location: This is a hybrid role, with the preferred candidate located near one of Lonza’s key U.S. sites in Houston, TX; Walkersville, MD; or Portsmouth, NH. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid capacity from one of these locations and should be willing to travel up to 20% as business needs require.

What will you do:

As part of Lonza's global SAP S/4HANA transformation program, the Business Process Architect – EHS will play a critical role in advancing and harmonizing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Product Compliance processes across our global network. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will partner with business and technology teams to drive the successful implementation and continuous improvement of SAP S/4HANA EHS capabilities.

• Support the global deployment of SAP S/4HANA EHS and Product Compliance solutions across multiple implementation waves.
• Serve as the business process expert for Incident Management, Action & Task Management, Inspection & Audit Management, Risk Assessment, and Global Label Management (GLM).
• Collaborate with global EHS, Product Compliance, IT, and program stakeholders to align business requirements with SAP S/4HANA capabilities.
• Act as the liaison between corporate program teams and site-level stakeholders to ensure successful adoption of standardized processes.
• Evaluate local business processes, identify gaps, and drive alignment with global templates and best practices.
• Lead process design, harmonization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
• Develop and deliver training, documentation, and change management materials to support user adoption.
• Participate in system testing, validation, defect resolution, and go-live readiness activities.
• Provide expert guidance on EHS regulatory and compliance requirements within SAP-enabled business processes.
• Support long-term sustainability and governance of EHS and Product Compliance solutions post-implementation.

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in EHS and/or Product Compliance within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing industries.
• Proven experience implementing and optimizing EHS processes in SAP environments, including SAP S/4HANA.
• Hands-on experience supporting full lifecycle SAP implementations, from design and configuration through deployment and post-go-live support.
• Strong knowledge of EHS and Product Compliance business processes.
• Experience with Global Label Management (GLM) required; experience with Environment Management and Sustainability Control Tower is strongly preferred.
• Professional EHS certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar) are a plus.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across global, cross-functional, and multicultural teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
