Overview
The Configuration Management Inventory BizOps team is looking for a BizOps Engineer who is experienced in Linux and/or Unix system administration, with ideal experience administering the BMC Discovery application.
In this role you will maintain the current BMC Discovery infrastructure which is dominantly Linux based.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the current BMC Discovery infrastructure which is dominantly Linux based.
- Provide technical leadership and support to a distributed team managing globally distributed infrastructure.
- Configure, deploy, and administer Linux-based systems across multiple environments.
- Administer the BMC Discovery Software which serves the role of Configuration Management Inventory collection from nearly every type of IT Infrastructure that exists.
- Troubleshoot Network Connectivity and/or Credential issues such as SSH to Linux/Unix platforms, WMI Query and PowerShell to Windows, API connections to cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), etc.
- Discuss, plan, and manage change implementation for upgrades, releases, migrations, and other maintenance.
- Monitor and respond to system alerts and failures.
- Develop plans to improve quality for projects that impact the platform.
- Ensure platform procedures are developed with best practices and standards and are well documented.
- Help to innovate on new methodologies to improve Business Operations.
- Coach junior level employees on Business Operations best practices.
- Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.
- Scale systems sustainably through automation and drive changes that improve reliability and velocity.
- Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
- Take a holistic approach to problem solving during production events to optimize mean time to recovery.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, code development or equivalent practical experience (at least four years).
- Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive.
- Experience dealing with multiple stakeholders and making decisions with urgency.
- Appetite for change and pushing the boundaries of automation.
- Security-first and customer-first mindsets.
- A Can-Do attitude and passion for improving processes and automation.
- Ability to work across development, operations, and product teams.
- Extensive experience with Linux operating systems (CentOS, RHEL, OEL, Ubuntu).
- Experience with BMC Discovery administration (ideal).
- SNMP walk and MIB-tree experience (a plus).
- ITIL basics and change control principles (ideal).
- Experience with ITSM tools such as Remedy, ServiceNow (ideal).
- CMDB experience (ideal).
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+ and RHCE (ideal).
- Experience with deployment/configuration management and CI/CD and release tools (Chef, Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet, XLR, Octopus, Satellite, Flow).
- Scripting experience (Bash, Python, Perl, PowerShell).
- Understanding of Windows Server 2012+ and domains.
- Understanding of software and package inventory basics; Apache/middleware and Java runtimes experience.
- Understanding of security architecture designs; SSL/TLS and certificates.
- Git and source code management understanding.
- Networking at scale; Agile methodologies.
- Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Nagios, Zabbix).
- Understanding of cloud methodologies and services, particularly AWS and Azure.
- Remote server diagnostics and troubleshooting; patch/lifecycle management of Linux and Windows endpoints.
- RHCE certification (preferred).
- Preferred: BMC Discovery Certification; 5+ years’ experience in BMC Discovery platform, architecture & attribute management.
