Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum unit seeks a Pharmacy Information Systems Specialist for a full-time field-based role in the Greater Boston area. This position requires travel to multiple locations and occasional overtime with a standard 8:00 am–6:00 pm schedule.

You will support pharmacy information systems, assist in planning, testing, training, and implementing Epic Willow Ambulatory and EnterpriseRx, and collaborate with operations, clinical staff, and IT to optimize workflows and data integrity.

Qualifications

This position is Field Based and requires regular travel to various locations as part of your daily responsibilities.

Under general supervision, provides operational and administrative support for pharmacy information systems and related business applications. Assists with system maintenance, reporting, data integrity, workflow analysis, user support, testing, and implementation activities. Works collaboratively with pharmacy operations, clinical staff, and information systems teams to support current pharmacy technology solutions and future application initiatives, including participation in the planning, implementation, and optimization of Epic Willow Ambulatory Pharmacy.

This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work an 8-hour shift schedule during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Field based in Greater Boston area.

We provide up to 6 weeks of training and the hours during training will be Monday - Friday, 8-hour shift schedule between the hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supports pharmacy information systems and related workflows through data maintenance, reporting, testing, troubleshooting, and user support.
• Assists with planning, testing, training, and implementation activities for current and future pharmacy technology initiatives, including EnterpriseRx and Epic Willow Ambulatory.
• Collaborates with pharmacy leadership, operational staff, vendors, and information systems teams to identify system improvements and workflow optimization opportunities.
• Participates in application testing, workflow validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), and issue tracking for system upgrades and implementations.
• Maintains documentation, training materials, workflow diagrams, and system procedures.
• Serves as a resource for pharmacy system users, researching and resolving routine application and workflow issues.
• Participates in on-site meetings, workflow assessments, go-live activities, training sessions, and implementation support as required to support pharmacy operations and system initiatives.
• Travel to assigned offices in your market as needed (16 locations)
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
• Must be 18 years of age OR older
• 2+ years of experience in healthcare operations, pharmacy operations, healthcare information systems, clinical applications, or related support roles
• National Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
• Must have reliable form of transportation
• Must Be willing to travel to assigned locations within your market up to 50% of the time
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools
• Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work an 8-hour shift schedule during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Field based in Greater Boston area.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a retail, ambulatory, specialty, mail-order, or outpatient pharmacy environment
• Epic Willow Ambulatory experience or certification
• Exposure to Epic applications, pharmacy systems, dispensing systems (Mckesson EnterpriseRx), or EHR platforms
• Understanding of pharmacy workflows, medication dispensing processes, and pharmacy operations
• Experience supporting healthcare or pharmacy technology systems.
• Experience participating in system implementations, upgrades, testing, or training activities.
• Experience with system testing, documentation, reporting, and end-user support

Soft Skills:

• Strong aptitude for learning healthcare technology applications and supporting system implementations.
• Ability to analyze workflows, troubleshoot issues, and identify process improvement opportunities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with both operational and technical teams

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
