A global packaging manufacturer is searching for an experienced Business Development Representative to cover the Southern US region. They provide a broad spectrum of paper and plastic-based packaging products, as well as equipment and supporting services internationally. The role will target multiple consumer segments, including Personal Care, Home Care, Hygiene, Pet Products, Electronics and general retail goods.

The company is uniquely positioned to provide multiple substrate types, as well as equipment and expertise on production and processing. Heavily focused on new business development, this position requires a hunter mentality in order to generate prospects and commercial outcomes from a standing start. There will also be the scope to take responsibility for several existing customers in the region, where you should aim to strategically increase revenue and profitability over the long term. Knowledge on how to engage clients at different levels and in varying functions within retail brands is essential.

As an individual contributor, you will be required to hit and exceed KPIs focused on effective pipeline management, lead conversion and ultimately a positive commercial outcome. An experienced technical team is in place to support your role when it comes to demonstrations and product performance queries, but any technical capability you have in the packaging space would be advantageous.

The role:

  • To grow new business by identifying and qualifying new leads - via electronic and in-person means.
  • Engage with prospects to understand their packaging challenges and goals, and adjust offering and specification accordingly.
  • Regularly travelling to potential customer locations, as well as infrequently to internal company sites.
  • Work closely with Account Managers, Marketing and Technical Service to ensure end-to-end customer satisfaction, and the development of tailored proposals and smooth handoff.
  • Effectively track and manage business pipeline. Using CRM tools to maintain accurate customer details, outreach information, and deal progress.
  • Support colleagues in the proposal and quotation process, preparing customized quotes and presentations aligning with customer need and market presence.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, as well as the competitive landscape. Take part in industry events and trade shows. Must especially focus on key sustainability trends, as well as materials and design innovation.

You should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in a relevant field; Business, Economics, Engineering, Packaging, etc.
  • >6 Years' commercial experience in packaging.
  • New Business Development experience in the packaging industry, ideally targeting retail brand owners.
  • Knowledge of both plastic and paper-based packaging materials would be desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills, in additional to a proactive commercial approach.
  • The ability to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
