Primary Purpose

The Executive Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, expanding existing client relationships, and driving revenue growth. This role involves strategic oversight of business development activities, aligning with corporate goals. The role includes selling Emmes' technology-enabled services across biopharmaceutical, government, non-profit, and academic sectors, contributing to R&D excellence in the life sciences industry.

Responsibilities
  1. Drive Business Growth: Sell the company's capabilities, differentiate Emmes from competitors, and follow up on leads to secure new opportunities.
  2. Achieve Sales Targets: Meet or exceed annual sales goals within assigned territories and accounts.
  3. Strategic Client Engagement: Develop and implement client call cycles and strategic account plans to foster long-term partnerships. Leverage a strong network of biotech, pharmaceutical, and government contacts.
  4. Client Relationship Management: Build relationships with senior stakeholders to expand business opportunities.
  5. Sales Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular updates on sales activities, market trends, and competitive intelligence to senior management.
  6. Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with operations to understand capabilities, capacity, and timelines to ensure aligned client delivery.
  7. Win Strategy Development: Create tailored strategies to secure opportunities and strengthen client partnerships.
  8. Customer Expectation Management: Set and manage client expectations, ensuring high satisfaction through a consultative approach.
  9. Bid and Client Meetings: Lead client visits, presentations, and bid defenses to secure business.
  10. CRM and Pipeline Management: Use CRM tools to document interactions and manage opportunity pipelines.
  11. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties supporting business development goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or business field.
  • 10+ years of experience providing CRO services to biotech, pharma, and government sectors, including account management and engagement with decision-makers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% within the territory and to corporate locations.
  • Understanding of CRO services and eClinical solutions (RTSM, EDC, eCOA).
  • Knowledge of sales cycles and strategies in services and technology sectors.
  • Proven ability to grow and retain a client base and manage challenging situations.
  • Strong internal and external relationship-building skills.
  • Effective presentation and interpersonal skills, proficient in MS Office.
