Job description

Business Development Representative

Turn strong, growing inbound demand into qualified pipeline — supported by targeted ABX outbound and the industry’s biggest events

There are a lot of security companies out there, but no one is doing what Nucleus is doing: giving security teams the ability to run the most effective vulnerability and exposure management program possible. Some of the largest enterprises and government agencies in the world run on our platform, and we’re growing fast. Top-tier venture funding, an amazing team who will fight beside you to accomplish the impossible, great benefits, and fully remote.

Here’s the good news about this seat: our inbound demand is strong and growing. Your primary job is to work it well — respond fast, qualify sharply, and turn real interest into meetings your AE counterparts are glad to take. You’ll back that up with targeted outbound into named accounts as part of our account-based (ABX) program, and you’ll represent Nucleus face to face at the industry’s biggest security events a few times a year.

Why this role exists

This is a new seat created by growth — driven in large part by inbound volume we want to convert better and faster. Your individual output is visible and it matters. You’ll also be joining a leader whose real strength is developing top-performing BDRs: structured onboarding, weekly coaching and mock calls, and a documented track record of promoting reps into account executive, solutions engineering, customer success, and marketing roles.

What you’ll do

Own inbound — this is the priority. Be the first, fast, credible response to the people raising their hands: demo requests, content and webinar leads, event follow-up, and trial interest. Qualify with real discovery — need, timing, environment, decision process — and convert genuine interest into meetings that stick. Speed and judgment both matter: our buyers are busy, and the first good conversation usually wins.

Support the ABX program with targeted outbound. Outbound here is deliberate, not a numbers game. You’ll work a defined set of high-value named accounts alongside Marketing and your AEs — using intent and account signals to time your outreach — so outbound reinforces the accounts we’ve collectively decided matter most.

Personalize everything, and use AI to do it well. Our buyers are technical and busy. You’ll write outreach and follow-up that sounds like a person who understands their world — and you’ll use AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) every day to research faster and sharpen your messaging.

Run a clean process. Manage inbound routing, accounts, and follow-up in Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Outreach, and Gong — and partner closely with your AEs and Marketing to act on campaign signals fast.

Represent Nucleus at our biggest events. A few times a year, our BDRs are the front line at RSAC, Black Hat, the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, and other key events — proactively engaging people in and around our booth, qualifying on the spot, and booking high-quality meetings. Expect roughly 3–4 events a year, plus our annual company and sales kickoff.

Your first 90 days

We’ve run this playbook before, and we don’t leave ramp to chance:

  • First 30 days

Structured onboarding and product training. Learn our market, ICP, and the vulnerability and exposure management problems our buyers face. Shadow calls, run mock calls, and start handling live inbound with close coaching.

  • By 60 days

Owning inbound response and qualification for your patch, with outbound sequences live into your named ABX accounts. Weekly 1:1s and email-writing sessions to sharpen your craft.

  • By 90 days

Fully ramped and holding your own number — converting inbound into qualified meetings, supporting ABX outbound, and confident enough in the material to represent Nucleus in front of a security buyer.

What we’re looking for
  • 2–4+ years in sales or business development — BDR/SDR, inside sales, or another customer-facing role. Experience handling real inbound volume with a high qualification bar is especially relevant.

  • Sharp qualification instincts. You can tell a genuine opportunity from a tire-kicker quickly, and you protect your AEs’ calendars without dropping real interest on the floor.

  • Outbound capability too. You can build and run a thoughtful, targeted sequence into a named account when it matters — not just work a queue.

  • Cybersecurity or technical SaaS experience preferred. Holding a credible conversation with a security buyer is a meaningful advantage.

  • Strong communication. Concise and credible in writing and on the phone with senior technical people.

  • Comfortable in person. You genuinely enjoy meeting people face to face and can open a conversation with a stranger on a busy expo floor.

  • AI-fluent. Using AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude in your daily workflow is a requirement, not a bonus.

  • Tech-savvy. Salesforce, Outreach, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Gong, Slack, Teams, and Zoom.

  • Curious, resilient, and coachable. You want to be coached — this is a team where you’ll get real feedback and be expected to use it.

  • Nice to have: selling into U.S. Federal, Defense, or State & Local government; an established cybersecurity network; a bachelor’s or associate degree.

If you have less experience than the range above but can show real results and genuine curiosity about security, we’d still like to hear from you. We hire for trajectory and coachability, not just years on a resume.

Why you should be excited
  • The mission. We automate enterprise vulnerability and exposure management so security teams can prioritize and mitigate risk, at scale — working toward a world where remediation outpaces exploitation.

  • Warm demand to work with. You’re not starting from zero. Inbound interest is real and growing, and your job is to make the most of it.

  • The career path. A launchpad, run by a leader who builds and promotes top performers into AE, solutions engineering, customer success, and marketing roles.

  • Nucleus believes “work is people”,and when our people succeed, our company succeeds.
