Southern Energy Management (SEM) is looking for a Business Development Representative to lead sales and account development for our Single Family Building Performance team in our Coastal Carolinas division.
This is a relationship-driven sales and business development role focused on both winning new business and growing existing builder relationships across the Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and Charleston markets.
The Business Development Representative will work closely with our field operations, sales, and marketing teams to build and maintain strong relationships with builders, developers, trades, and other industry partners. This person will also help refine our sales processes, maintain accurate CRM data, support client education and training, and create content that helps grow our Builder Energy Services channel.
The ideal candidate is flexible, highly organized, relationship-oriented, eager to learn, and willing to take ownership and find solutions when challenges arise. They are equally comfortable developing a new prospect from the first conversation as they are deepening a relationship with a long-standing client.
A genuine interest in sustainable energy, high-performance homes, and SEM's mission of using business as a force for good.
You enjoy meeting people, building trust, and developing long-term relationships. You're comfortable working with builders, trades, field teams, and other clients and can develop credibility with people at all levels of an organization.
You are comfortable prospecting, following up, asking for the business, developing opportunities, and working toward measurable goals. You're motivated by the opportunity to grow a business and aren't afraid to create opportunities where they don't already exist.
You can balance two equally important responsibilities: winning new business and growing the relationships we already have. You're persistent enough to open new doors while thoughtful enough to turn existing customers into long-term partners.
Strong internal motivation, persistence, and resilience will be critical to success in this role. You'll need to be comfortable hearing "no," navigating challenges, and continuing to move opportunities forward.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, trades, field staff, and internal teams.
Ability to manage a daily schedule, prioritize competing demands, consistently follow up with prospects and clients, and keep CRM information accurate and current.
Comfortable learning and using technology and business software. Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, Data Studio/Looker Studio, or similar platforms is preferred. Fast and accurate data entry is important, as you'll be responsible for maintaining information that supports sales, operations, and marketing.
Experience in residential construction, building products, energy efficiency, HVAC, insulation, solar, homebuilding, or another construction-related trade is strongly preferred.
This is a remote position with an expectation of approximately 25–50% travel throughout the Coastal Carolinas service area, including Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and Charleston. Travel will include builder meetings, job sites, client trainings, industry events, and other relationship-building activities. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
