Job summary

Education First FCU is seeking a Business Development Officer to drive membership growth in Southeast Texas, focusing on Jefferson and Hardin counties. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in public or community relations, strong communication and leadership skills, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

Role

The Business Development Officer is responsible for generating new memberships and expanding the credit union's presence through community outreach, relationship development, and business partnerships across our Southeast Texas, with a main focus on Jefferson and Hardin counties. This position represents the credit union at community events, Select Employee Groups (SEGs), businesses, and organizations while promoting products and services that support membership growth and deepen member relationships.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Business Development & Membership Growth: Develop relationships with businesses, community organizations, schools, and SEGs to generate new memberships. Identify and cultivate opportunities to expand the credit union's field of membership. Conduct on-site account opening events and educational presentations. Promote all credit union products and services while identifying lending and deposit opportunities. Generate referrals for consumer loans, mortgages, business services, and other products. Maintain a consistent pipeline of prospects and partnerships. Act as a key leader in annual programs such as scholarship and Blue Jean Fund program. Assist in or act as lead in program promotion, logistics, and distribution of recipients.

• Community Engagement: Represent the credit union at community events, networking functions, financial education seminars, and sponsorship activities. Build relationships with civic leaders, chamber organizations, nonprofits, and local businesses. Promote the credit union's mission and brand throughout the community. Participate in volunteer opportunities that support the credit union's strategic objectives.

• Relationship Management: Maintain ongoing relationships with existing business partners and employee groups. Identify opportunities to expand current relationships through additional services or employee engagement. Provide exceptional service to business partners and community contacts.

• Reporting & Administration: Maintain accurate activity records within the CRM. Submit weekly activity reports. Assist in preparing reports on membership growth and outreach activities. Support credit union-hosted events and other marketing initiatives. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support organizational objectives.
  
• Promotional Items: Help order and oversee procurement and inventory of promotional merchandise and branded materials. Assist Business Development Manager in ensuring budget expectations pertaining to promotional item orderings.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience

Three to five years experience in public or community relations for a mid-sized company or non-profit. Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Leadership, strong team management and organizational skills. Proven track record of independently leading multiple, complex projects. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop and Canva. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Physical demands include the ability to lift, carry, and deliver supplies and materials and set up events. Must have a valid Texas driver's license.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A college degree.

The ability to motivate or influence inside or outside senior level personnel is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
