Job description

Our client is a venture-backed biotechnology company developing advanced single-cell genomics and multiomics technologies. Its proprietary platform enables researchers to analyse genomic and transcriptomic information from individual cells, providing deeper insight into cellular heterogeneity than traditional bulk-sequencing approaches.

The company supports pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic customers working across oncology, measurable residual disease, cell and gene therapy, reproductive genetics and microbiome research.

Technology and Product Portfolio

The company’s portfolio includes:

  • Single-cell whole-genome amplification workflows designed to deliver high genomic coverage, uniformity and reduced allelic dropout.

  • Multiomics solutions combining genomic and transcriptomic analysis from the same individual cell.

  • Specialised workflows for applications such as measurable residual disease, long-read sequencing and rare-cell analysis.

  • Bioinformatics and data-visualisation software for interpreting complex, high-resolution single-cell datasets.

  • Reagents, workflows and technical services supporting research and translational applications.

Key Application Areas

  • Oncology and MRD: Understanding tumour evolution, clonal diversity, therapeutic resistance and residual disease.

  • Cell and Gene Therapy: Assessing genome-editing outcomes, including on-target and rare off-target events.

  • Reproductive Genetics: Supporting high-resolution genetic analysis within pre-implantation testing workflows.

  • Microbiome Research: Enabling genomic analysis of rare, unculturable or difficult-to-characterise microorganisms.

The Role

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding strategic relationships across assigned biopharma accounts. The successful candidate will combine technical knowledge of genomics with a consultative, value-based approach to commercial development.

Working closely with field sales, business development, product marketing and scientific application teams, the Business Development Manager will identify new opportunities, develop strategic account plans and position the company’s portfolio against customers’ research and development priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales growth and achieve commercial objectives across the company’s portfolio.

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans covering short-, medium- and long-term growth opportunities.

  • Build trusted relationships with scientific, technical, procurement and executive stakeholders across assigned accounts.

  • Understand customer research programmes, technical requirements and commercial priorities.

  • Identify opportunities to support pharmaceutical research, translational development and clinical programmes.

  • Communicate the scientific and commercial value of complex genomics and multiomics technologies.

  • Coordinate internal scientific, technical, service and management resources to support customer requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with business development, product marketing, field sales and application science teams.

  • Respond to changing market conditions and adjust account strategies accordingly.

  • Proactively assess, clarify and validate customer needs throughout the sales process.

  • Qualify and progress leads generated through marketing and other commercial channels.

  • Navigate customer procurement processes and support opportunities through to successful closure.

  • Maintain accurate CRM records, opportunity updates and sales forecasts.

  • Support customer retention, account expansion and long-term relationship development.

Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in life sciences, chemistry, business or a related discipline.

  • At least five years of successful commercial experience within NGS, genomics, diagnostics or a closely related life-science market.

  • Experience selling technically complex products, workflows or services to biopharma customers.

  • A demonstrable track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.

  • The ability to quickly understand highly technical scientific concepts and communicate them clearly to different audiences.

  • Strong strategic account planning and opportunity-management capabilities.

  • Excellent listening, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

  • The confidence to engage with scientists, technical stakeholders, procurement teams and senior decision-makers.

  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience influencing stakeholders and driving action within a matrix organisation.

  • An entrepreneurial, results-oriented and self-motivated approach.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
