Job description

Senior Business Development Manager – North America Groups

Location: United States (Remote)

Preferred Location: Northeast / Mid-Atlantic, otherwise strong candidates elsewhere in the US will be considered.

Employment Type: Full-time | Permanent

About the Opportunity

Spencer Recruitment is partnering with an established international destination management and travel business to recruit a Senior Business Development Manager – North America Groups.

This is a highly commercial, new-business-focused position, responsible for developing relationships with North American tour operators and generating inbound group travel business into the UK, Ireland, Nordics, Baltics and wider Europe.

We are looking for a genuine new-business hunter.

The successful candidate will have an established network within the North American tour operator market and a proven track record of personally identifying, approaching and winning new business.

This is not a traditional account management or customer service position. We need someone who thrives on opening doors, developing new relationships and converting opportunities into meaningful revenue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, approach and secure new business directly with North American tour operators.
  • Develop and execute a proactive new-business strategy across the US group travel market.
  • Leverage existing relationships with tour operator decision-makers to generate commercial opportunities.
  • Build a strong pipeline of new group travel business across European destinations.
  • Take ownership of the full sales cycle, from prospecting and initial engagement through to negotiation and conversion.
  • Proactively target new accounts through direct outreach, industry relationships, trade shows and networking.
  • Develop opportunities across leisure, educational, affinity, religious and specialist group travel.
  • Work closely with European destination and operational teams to deliver commercially attractive group travel programmes.
  • Drive measurable revenue growth through newly acquired tour operator accounts.
  • Represent the business at relevant North American travel industry events and trade shows.
The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Proven new-business success: A strong track record of personally originating and winning new tour operator accounts, with measurable revenue results.
  • Established tour operator relationships: An active network of North American tour operators and senior commercial decision-makers.
  • DMC experience: Direct experience selling destination management, ground-handling or inbound travel services to tour operators.
  • European destination knowledge: Experience selling group travel programmes into the UK, Ireland, Nordics, Baltics or wider Europe.
  • Group travel expertise: Strong experience within leisure, educational, religious, affinity or specialist group travel rather than primarily individual travel.
  • A hunter mentality: Someone who is ambitious, persistent, commercially driven and comfortable proactively approaching prospective clients.
  • Commercial achievements: The ability to demonstrate specific accounts personally won, the approach taken and the revenue generated.
  • Immediate market access: Established relationships that can create meaningful new-business opportunities within the first few months.
Relevant Industry Background

Candidates may currently work within:

  • Destination Management Companies (DMCs) or inbound tour operators.
  • International group travel and European destination specialists.
  • B2B tour operator partnerships and group travel business development.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for an ambitious travel industry business developer to make a genuine commercial impact within an established international business.

You will have the autonomy to develop new partnerships, build a substantial North American group travel pipeline and directly influence the company's growth across key European destinations.
