Job description

Touchpoint Media is looking for a Business Development Manager to help grow our agency by building relationships, identifying new opportunities and connecting organizations with content solutions that help them communicate more effectively.

We are a content-focused agency that helps organizations tell meaningful stories and connect with their audiences through editorial content, design, video, digital experiences and integrated communications. Our clients range from local organizations to global brands, and our work spans industries including healthcare, manufacturing, financial services, automotive and more.

This role will lead our new-business efforts, from identifying and engaging prospective clients to understanding their challenges, developing solutions and helping turn opportunities into long-term partnerships. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and consultative seller who understands marketing and communications and can see the possibilities in a client’s business challenge — not simply sell from a menu of services.

The Business Development Manager will work closely with Touchpoint leadership and our editorial, design and video teams to develop proposals and solutions tailored to each opportunity.

What You’ll Do
Position Overview

Build new business
  • Identify and pursue prospective clients that align with Touchpoint’s capabilities, experience and growth priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified new-business opportunities.
  • Research organizations, industries and decision-makers to identify potential communications and content needs.
  • Conduct strategic outreach through email, LinkedIn, networking, referrals, industry events and other channels.
  • Build relationships with marketing, communications and business leaders and establish Touchpoint as a trusted content partner.
Understand needs and develop solutions
  • Lead discovery conversations to understand prospective clients’ audiences, objectives, challenges, budgets and opportunities.
  • Recommend content approaches that draw on Touchpoint’s capabilities in editorial strategy and development, design, video and digital communications.
  • Look beyond individual projects to identify opportunities for integrated and ongoing content programs.
  • Collaborate with Touchpoint’s editorial, creative and production teams to scope projects and develop thoughtful, realistic solutions.
  • Translate client needs into clear briefs that give internal teams the information they need to develop strong concepts and estimates.
Develop and close opportunities
  • Lead the development of proposals, presentations, capabilities materials and responses to RFPs.
  • Present Touchpoint’s capabilities, experience and recommendations to prospective clients.
  • Develop project scopes and pricing in collaboration with agency leadership and internal teams.
  • Manage opportunities from initial contact through proposal, negotiation and close.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects throughout what can often be a longer B2B sales cycle.
  • Ensure a smooth transition from new-business development to the team responsible for delivering the work.
Help shape our growth strategy
  • Maintain accurate records of prospects, opportunities, activity and pipeline within Touchpoint’s CRM or sales tracking system.
  • Provide regular reporting on pipeline activity, conversion and new-business results.
  • Identify trends in client needs, industries and the content marketing landscape that could create new opportunities for Touchpoint.
  • Help refine how Touchpoint positions and packages its capabilities based on marketplace feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to reconnect with past clients, former prospects, referral partners and other relationships.
  • Work with leadership to establish and track new-business goals and priorities.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, account management or a related client-facing role, preferably within a marketing, communications, creative, publishing or content agency environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate leads, build relationships and turn opportunities into new business.
  • Understanding of content marketing and communications and how editorial, design, video and digital content work together.
  • Strong consultative selling skills and the ability to uncover the business need behind a client’s initial request.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence in communicating with senior marketing, communications and business leaders.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to contribute to compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Ability to collaborate with writers, editors, designers, videographers and other creative professionals.
  • Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple prospects and opportunities at different stages.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the new-business process.
  • Experience with CRM, prospecting and sales tools is preferred.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn’t simply about making sales calls. It’s about creating a consistent, sustainable approach to growing Touchpoint’s business.

The Business Development Manager will build a healthy pipeline of qualified prospects, generate meaningful conversations with organizations that are a strong fit for Touchpoint, convert opportunities into profitable client relationships and help expand awareness of what Touchpoint can do.

Just as important, this person will bring the right opportunities into the agency — work where Touchpoint’s strengths in storytelling, strategy, editorial, design, video and content production can make a meaningful difference for clients.
