Job description

Business Development Manager

Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy in North America, is looking for a Business Development Manager to join our team. The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading the selling efforts of Spark Power's technical services into their assigned industrial and commercial markets.

This is a hands-on position involving extensive face-to-face interaction with existing customers and new prospects. You will estimate project scope and negotiate contracts, which may include electrical components (transformers, disconnects, motors, fusing, breakers, distribution panels, main building switchgear), wiring methods (conduit, wire, cable tray), and knowledge of safety devices, motor control (contactors, manual starters, overload protection), and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives).

What will you do as a Business Development Manager?
  • Demonstrate strong technical understanding of electrical installations, safety standards, and industrial manufacturing equipment to potential customers.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales targets through new customer acquisition and retention of current customers.
  • Identify strategic customer accounts and develop annual sales plans.
  • Respond to inbound requests for proposals and information, networking, cold calling, and monitoring procurement activities.
  • Lead negotiations and close major project opportunities collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Negotiate contract terms, conditions, and pricing to meet mutual objectives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop lead generation strategies.
  • Support planning and execution of tradeshows and on-site customer activities like workshops and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

What we’re looking for:
  • 3-5 years of industrial experience as an Electrician, Technologist, or Electrical Project Manager, or training in B2B sales with a successful contract negotiation record.
  • Strong understanding of electrical installations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for customer meetings and industry events.
  • Knowledge of contract terms, legal implications, and sales process in industrial or commercial contexts.
