Job summary

JT THORPE is seeking a Business Development Manager for EPC in Houston. You will own the pursuit, connect customers with project teams, and drive opportunities across the Gulf and the U.S., building relationships with steel fabricators, owners, EPC firms, GCs, and industrial clients while moving projects through the pipeline.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of business development, sales, or account management experience in industrial construction or related industries.
  • Track record of supporting estimating, proposal development, customer presentations, and large project pursuits.
  • Industry experience in EPC preferred, not necessary.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building chops. Comfortable in a steel fabricator's shop or a boardroom.
  • Working knowledge of CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel throughout the US as the work demands.

Responsibilities

  • Hunt opportunities. Identify upcoming projects, bid opportunities, and build long-term partnerships across your target accounts and market.
  • Build the network. Develop and maintain strong relationships with Steel Fabricators, Owners, EPC Firms, GCs, vendors, and industrial clients.
  • Hit the road. Travel to customer meetings, job walks, bid reviews, conferences, and networking events throughout the U.S.
  • Own the plan. Organize, execute, and continuously maintain the focused sales plan. Manage the CRM, customer contact list, and keep the pipeline moving.
  • Manage the budget. Take ownership of your annual sales target and prioritize where your time, travel, and entertainment create the biggest return.
  • Partner with estimating. Work with Estimating and operations to explain the customer needs to develop competitive, accurate, professional proposals every time.
  • Tell the story. Present PowerPoint presentations, capability statements, and pitch materials that clearly communicate scope, capabilities, and the value JT THORPE brings to a project.
  • Represent the brand. Show up at trade shows, conferences, and customer events as the face of JT THORPE. Help keep our messaging, materials, and presence consistent and professional.
  • Set projects up to win. Hand-off accurate, reliable customer and project info so the project management team can deliver flawlessly from day one.
  • Read the Market. Track the trends. Report up. Use the tools.

Summary:

As Business Development Manager for EPC, you own the pursuit. You're the connection between our customers, the next opportunity in the market, and the project teams who deliver. You'll build and manage strong relationships with Steel Fabricators, Owners, EPC Firms, GCs, and key industrial clients across the Gulf and the U.S. identifying upcoming projects, driving them through the pipeline, and helping us land work that fits.

Read the Market
  • Track the trends. Understand the market and know your competitors, do research to know what's coming, who's playing, and what opportunities are next.
  • Report up. Provide weekly and monthly updates to senior leadership on sales activity, pipeline health, trends, and target account strategies.
  • Use the tools. Run a disciplined CRM to capture, track, and show the team your wins.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5–7+ years of business development, sales, or account management experience in industrial construction or related industries.
  • Track record of supporting estimating, proposal development, customer presentations, and large project pursuits.
