Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • 3-5+ years of experience in construction business development, project management, or related role.
  • Proven success developing and executing business development strategies and winning new work.
  • Strong understanding of construction delivery methods, market sectors, and industry dynamics.
  • Experience leading RFQ/RFP pursuits, proposals, and client presentations.

Step into a high-impact leadership role driving growth, shaping market strategy, and winning the work that defines the future of the organization. As a Business Development Manager, you will lead the pursuit of key opportunities within our GC/CM markets, with a primary focus on Data Centers, Financial Services, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, and privately funded Higher Education. You’ll build trusted client relationships, uncovernew business opportunities, and position the company as a partner of choice for complex, high-value projects.

This role blends strategy, relationship-building, and hands-on pursuit leadership. You’ll connect market intelligence with client needs, guide cross-functional teams through competitive pursuits, and influence long-term business success by securing meaningful, profitable work that aligns with the company’s vision for growth. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of one or more of these industries and the relationships, market knowledge, and business development skills needed to expand our presence within them.

This position requires approximately 1 trip every two weeks on average. Travel will be primarily throughout the Midwest, with occasional national travel as business opportunities and client needs require. Flexibility to travel for client meetings, industry events, project pursuits, and other business development activities is expected.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Growth Strategy: Execute business development strategies aligned with company and Business Unit goals

Define Target Markets: Identify and prioritize target sectors, clients, and project opportunities to drive strategic growth

Build Client Relationships: Establish and maintain a strong market presence, cultivating long-term partnerships and repeat business

Generate New Opportunities: Drive lead generation through networking, outreach, industry involvement, and research

Plan and Execute Pursuits: Develop and implement pursuit strategies and action plans for key opportunities

Lead Proposal Development: Manage RFQ/RFP processes to ensure timely, complete, and competitive submissions

Craft Winning Messaging: Develop compelling proposals and presentations that clearly communicate value, approach, and differentiation

Prepare Teams to Win: Coach and prepare pursuit teams for client interviews, including messaging, delivery, and Q&A strategy

Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with Operations, Preconstruction, Finance, Marketing, and Legal to align pursuit strategies and resources

Manage Pipeline and Forecasting: Maintain accurate CRM/Salesforce data, tracking pipeline health, forecasting, and reporting

Engage Key Stakeholders: Meet with clients, architects, engineers, and community partners to identify opportunities and align solutions

Negotiate and Mitigate Risk: Support contract negotiations and identify risk/reward considerations in alignment with company standards

Drive Competitive Advantage: Develop sales strategies that leverage full organizational capabilities to differentiate in the market

Sustain Client Success: Maintain involvement through project execution to ensure client satisfaction and long-term partnership

Promote Cross-Team Alignment: Foster collaboration across business units to ensure unified pursuit efforts

Track Performance: Monitor pursuit metrics and revenue forecasts to support financial objectives

Uphold Ethics and Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards

Champion Safety Culture: Promote Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) standards across all activities

Model Leadership Excellence: Demonstrate accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
