Job description

Director of Business Development - Data Centers

We’re seeking a business development leader to grow a construction portfolio spanning data centers, other mission-critical facilities, commercial projects, and industrial work. You’ll build relationships with owners and industry partners, identify projects that fit the business, and guide opportunities from early conversations through selection and award.

This role works across leadership, estimating, marketing, and project delivery teams. Success calls for sound market judgment, consistent client engagement, and the ability to bring the right people together around each pursuit.

Your impact:
  • Set business development priorities by market, client, and region, then turn those priorities into account plans and measurable goals.
  • Develop relationships with owners, developers, designers, consultants, contractors, trade partners, and prospective clients.
  • Learn how priority clients make decisions, what they plan to build, and where the company can meet their needs.
  • Find and assess potential projects using client insight, market research, competitive information, and the company’s capacity.
  • Keep a reliable opportunity forecast that captures project scope, estimated value, schedule, key contacts, likelihood of award, and next actions.
  • Help leadership decide which opportunities to pursue by weighing fit, competition, delivery requirements, risk, and expected return.
  • Shape pursuit plans and coordinate the people involved in qualifications, proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
  • Work with estimating and operations to align proposed solutions, schedules, pricing, and delivery commitments.
  • Partner with marketing on presentations, credentials, project examples, and other client materials.
  • Prepare team members for client meetings and interviews, and follow through on commitments afterward.
  • Represent the company at industry events and build partnerships that strengthen its capabilities or support entry into new regions.
  • Stay connected with clients during and after construction, gather feedback, and identify future work.
  • Improve how opportunities and client activity are recorded, reviewed, and shared across teams.
  • Contribute to business development budgets and reports, and coach team members where applicable.
What you bring:
  • At least 10 years of increasing responsibility in construction business development, client relations, real estate development, or a closely related field.
  • A record of building client relationships and winning construction work.
  • Knowledge of how construction projects are sourced, estimated, procured, contracted, and delivered.
  • Experience with qualification submissions, proposals, interviews, and negotiated pursuits.
  • Confidence working with owners, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, general contractors, and trade partners.
  • Strong communication, planning, and relationship management skills, with practical experience using CRM software and Microsoft Office.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred; comparable experience will also be considered. Leadership or strategic account experience, relationships in the data center or mission-critical sector, and experience opening new regional markets are especially valuable.
