Job summary

Merraine Group is partnering with a rapidly growing fintech to recruit a Business Development Manager for Chicago-based on-site leadership of revenue growth in a designated industry vertical. The role demands consultative selling, deep market expertise, and a robust network of industry relationships to modernize payment infrastructure.

You will own the complete sales lifecycle, drive opportunity development, negotiate strategic contracts, and collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of business development, sales, or partnership experience within an industry vertical.
  • Established network within ecommerce, entertainment, hospitality, travel, logistics, marketplaces, fintech, creator economy, or similar sectors.
  • Strong understanding of payment technologies and industry workflows.
  • Proven ability to develop executive-level relationships and close complex agreements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales and revenue targets.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to drive revenue growth within a designated industry vertical. This role is ideal for a consultative sales professional who brings deep market expertise, an established network of industry relationships, and a strong understanding of the payment challenges unique to their sector. The successful candidate will own the complete sales lifecycle while helping organizations modernize their payment infrastructure through innovative financial technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
  • Drive full-cycle sales efforts within an assigned industry vertical, leveraging existing relationships and market expertise.
  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities that align with company growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive-level decision-makers and strategic stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute targeted sales strategies that address the unique payment needs of the industry.
Solution Consulting
  • Understand customer business models, payment workflows, and operational challenges.
  • Present tailored payment solutions that demonstrate measurable value and long-term business impact.
  • Structure commercial agreements and negotiate contracts that create mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor throughout the customer buying journey.
Market & Partnership Development
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging market opportunities.
  • Identify strategic partnerships that accelerate customer acquisition and revenue growth.
  • Develop scalable go-to-market initiatives that expand their presence within the assigned vertical.
  • Manage multiple sales opportunities while maintaining an accurate and healthy pipeline.
Strategic Collaboration
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert for the assigned industry vertical.
  • Share customer insights with Product, Marketing, and Leadership teams to influence product development and market positioning.
  • Contribute to sales process improvements and best practices that support organizational growth.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of successful business development, sales, or partnership experience within a specific industry vertical.
  • Demonstrated expertise and an established professional network within industries such as ecommerce, entertainment, hospitality, travel, logistics, marketplaces, fintech, creator economy, or comparable sectors.
  • Strong understanding of payment technologies and industry-specific payment workflows.
  • Proven ability to develop executive-level relationships and close complex commercial agreements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated success achieving or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
Preferred
  • Experience selling payment processing, fintech, financial technology, or SaaS solutions.
  • Previous experience working within a startup or high-growth technology company.
  • Knowledge of digital assets, instant settlement technologies, or modern payment infrastructure.
  • Experience building strategic partnerships that generate measurable business growth.
  • Strong consultative selling and business development skills.

Compensation & Benefits include:
  • On-Target Earnings (OTE): $170,000–$280,000, including competitive base salary and uncapped commission opportunities.
