Job description

Remote role but candidate must reside in SF Bay Area or Northern California

Randstad is the #1 talent solutions provider in the world, seeking a Business Development Director to join our Life Sciences West Coast team. Our team offers staffing and solutions-based services for every step of the biopharma clinical trial process, including support providers like CDMO and analytical labs. We provide the talent and guidance necessary for success — from early research through FDA approval and beyond.

What you get to do:

This role involves identifying and generating new business through outside sales activities such as cold calls, prospecting, telemarketing, territory planning, and relationship building. The focus is on new sales in large accounts, primarily dealing with senior management within client organizations. Responsibilities include developing strategies to improve sales productivity, managing sales and delivery of products/services, implementing business plans, multi-site management, budget/forecast management, and fostering strategic alliances and partnerships.

  1. Collaborate with management to achieve goals and objectives.
  2. Coordinate with field management to establish pricing aligned with financial objectives.
  3. Exceed client satisfaction with service delivery.
  4. Manage accounts with revenue under $50 million (across all sites).
  5. Develop and execute effective sales plans to meet or exceed objectives for large accounts.
  6. Generally achieve results through middle-level managers, establishing organizational structures and supervisory relationships with top management approval.
  7. Manage and direct Account Representatives and/or Business Development Managers.
  8. Oversee multi-functional activities of strategic importance, focusing on performance standards rather than day-to-day operations.
  9. Perform prospecting and screening to identify qualified new business prospects.
  10. Use consultative sales strategies to overcome objections and maximize sales within the territory.
  11. Deliver formal sales presentations and follow-up with prospective accounts.
  12. Make decisions that are critical to organizational goals and impact company reputation and finances.
  13. Represent the organization as a key contact, conducting briefings and technical meetings with top management and clients.
  14. Establish and maintain good public relations and networking to develop new business.
  15. Collaborate internally to develop tailored sales presentation materials and ensure account-service alignment.

What you need to bring:

  • 5–7 years of staffing industry business development experience.
  • Professional experience within Life Sciences or a related field.
  • Proven success in selling large accounts and managing complex projects.
  • Experience presenting to C-level executives.
  • Strong consulting, leadership, management, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to system and process improvements.
  • Ability to describe and document client requirements clearly.
  • Bachelor's degree required; additional education is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Google Mail, calendaring, and shared drives.
