The
Role Summary
The Business Development Director is a key leadership role for NorthernBio. The Business Development Director role is responsible for driving the company’s growth through strategic initiatives and partnerships that increase revenue and brand presence. In addition, the Business Development Director will lead and develop a team to execute these strategies effectively.
This role is 100% remote, with frequent domestic travel required.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and implement project sales strategies, client service and retention plans.
- Use sales and financial data to inform or update marketing strategies.
- Partner with Scientific Staff to build our culture of selling scientist to scientist.
- Position Northern Bio as a preferred provider in the pre-clinical/CRO space.
- Provide strategic guidance to the team on market trends and business opportunities.
- Partner with Finance to forecast study volume and type for operational planning use.
- Monitor sponsor account management and staff performance to track achievement of sales/authorization targets across accounts.
- Ensure consistent delivery for each Business Development Lead of top-line sales goals and targeted profit contribution.
- Assess client satisfaction and recommend opportunities for improvement to ensure the overall success of each Business Development Lead and the accounts they manage.
- Team development through training, coaching and career growth planning.
- Cultivate strong relationships with new clients, while maintaining existing client relationships.
- Work closely with staff across the organization to implement growth strategies.
- Draft business plans, sales pitches, presentations, reference material, and other documents as required.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting pre-determined deadlines.
- Identify new business opportunities and partners, including opportunities in emerging markets or technologies.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients.
- Monitor and evaluate industry trends and customer drivers and meet regularly with managers and stakeholders to discuss strategy.

Role Requirements
- BS required; MS, MBA, or PhD preferred.
- Experience: >15 years Life Sciences or Biotech industry to include 10+ years in a BD/Sales role.
- Experience leading a team, overseeing performance metrics, coaching direct reports and ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Proven track record of selling products or services to biotech and major pharmaceutical clients.
- Ideally have an existing client network, positive relationships and knowledge of agreement execution.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-assured executive engagements, both internal (Board and Officers) and external (Clients and Officials). Ability to communicate complex business and financial information to key stakeholders.
- Ability to anticipate the need for change as well as successfully implement and promote acceptance of change. Data and technology knowledge with effective utilization within the organization.
- Ability to analyze emerging trends, anticipate organizational needs, and develop strategies to meet them.
- Exemplary leadership skills. Ability to foster teamwork and build relationships. Ability to flex as needed to adjust to a changing work environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
