Job summary

Dumfries & Galloway College is seeking a Business Development Assistant to join the External Development and Commercial Team on a full-time, permanent basis at the Dumfries campus.

You will support commercial activities, engage customers, and help deliver funded programmes while working closely with marketing and CRM systems. A full driving licence and SCQF Level 6 are required, with opportunities for career progression.

Qualifications

  • SCQF Level 6 or equivalent.
  • Sales/development experience preferred.
  • Appreciation for marketing and its impact on revenue.
  • Strong digital skills and willingness to improve competencies.
  • Excellent customer service, organization and teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A current full driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support engage existing and new customers and promote opportunities.
  • Contribute to a strategic sales engagement approach to maximise returns.
  • Advance day-to-day delivery of account management to satisfy commercial customers.
  • Collaborate with marketing to drive commercial activity.
  • Assist with future product and service development.
  • Administer CRM and other information systems for commercial activity.
  • Prepare and present reports to quantify business development against strategy and KPIs.
  • Support the team to deliver the College’s funded learning credits targets.

Dumfries Campus | £31,243 per annum (increasing to 32,305.26 from 01/09/26) | 35 hours per week | Permanent

What’s the Job?

We’re looking for a talented Business Development Assistant to join our External Development and Commercial Team on a full time, permanent contract. The role will primarily support the development of the commercial department to ensure the success of funded projects, achieve income targets, promote opportunities and support marketing initiatives.

The External Development and Commercial Team is responsible for delivering certificated and bespoke professional courses, SVQs, Modern Apprenticeships, Open Learning courses and funded programmes, in a College that aims to be one step ahead.

What You’ll Do
  • Support initiatives intended to engage existing and new customers.
  • Support a strategic sales engagement approach that seeks to maximise commercial returns.
  • Progress the day-to-day delivery of account management initiatives to ensure commercial customers are satisfied with our services.
  • Work alongside marketing to drive commercial activity.
  • Support future produce and service developments.
  • Be an administrator for database CRM and other information management systems related to commercial activity in the College.
  • Prepare and present reports as required intended to quantify business development in line with strategic direction, objectives and team key performance indicators.
  • Support the team to contribute to the achievement and delivery of the College’s target level of Scottish Funding Council funded learning credits.
Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a Business Development Assistant with a background in partnership development and relationship building to support the growth of the commercial College activities. You must be experienced in communicating via telephone, electronically and in person, using a CRM system and enjoy working in a fast paced dynamic and industrious environment.

To succeed in the role, you will have some or all of the following:
  • You will be educated to SCQF Level 6 or have relevant skills
  • Experience of working in a sales/development role is preferred
  • An appreciation for marketing
  • Good/Excellent digital skills with a willingness to continuously improve digital competencies
  • Strong customer service / organisation / teamworking / relationship building skills
  • Good/Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation abilities.
  • A current full driving licence is essential for this role
  • This post is required to be based on Campus in Dumfries
