Job summary

Head Start Agency is seeking a Bus Monitor to supervise children on bus routes and greet families with a positive attitude while prioritizing safety and a comfortable riding environment.

The role collaborates with the Bus Driver, requiring knowledge of transportation services, basic reporting skills, and the ability to speak English and the children’s primary language. A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Must pass a physical examination and be able to physically assist children, including lifting when necessary.
• Must pass a TB test.
• Must pass a Criminal and Background Check.
• Must pass a Child Abuse Clearance.
• Knowledge of Head Start transportation services and how to manage children on a bus.

Responsibilities

• Receive training on duties before assigned to vehicle.
• Learn safety procedures for boarding/exiting the vehicle.
• Learn use of Child Safety Restraint Systems (CSRS).
• Follow emergency evacuation procedures.
• Follow agency procedures for child pick-up and release.
• Assist Bus Driver with pre- and post-trip vehicle checks.
• Complete required paperwork and reporting.
• Understand emergency response procedures and operation of vehicle equipment.
• Interact with children to reinforce safe riding practices and support positive experiences.
