Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Automotive Repair or related field is preferred.
  • High school diploma with certification program and 3-6 years of related experience required.
  • Georgia CDL with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements preferred; if none, must obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs, maintenance, and modifications to school buses for safety and reliability.
  • Diagnose engine and electrical issues and conduct safety inspections.
  • Maintain tool chests and ensure proper use of hand and specialty tools.
  • Manage equipment, tools, and parts issued for work on motor vehicles.

  • Submit work orders to parts for inventory replenishment.

Job Description

Title: Bus Mechanic, Fleet Services

Performs basic skilled tasks to maintain and repair a fleet of school buses, performing tasks such as engine and electrical diagnostics, brake servicing, and conducting safety inspections to ensure reliable and safe student transportation. Perform duties under moderate supervision as an intermediate-level individual contributor.

Essential Functions
  • Performs various repairs, maintenance, and modifications to school buses to ensure safety and reliability
  • Examines vehicles and assesses the nature and extent of damage or malfunction; plans work and repair procedures
  • Maintains automotive/diesel service technician tool chest and hand tools
  • Assumes responsibility for equipment, tools, and materials issued for working on motor vehicles
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of serviceable technician-provided hand tools as determined by the supervisor
  • Maintains and accounts for all special tools, parts, supplies, and equipment issued to the employee
  • Cleans and stores tools promptly after use, and cleans the shop bays daily
  • Assists bus drivers in morning route start-up by providing needed repairs for bus operations, including inspection of safety-sensitive issues
  • Documents morning work from route assistance for generation of work orders required for restocking of truck parts inventory and information on the nature of repair and parts costs
  • Submits service truck work orders to the parts department for requisition of truck parts inventory used
  • Prepares paperwork for all repairs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Associate degree in Automotive Repair or related field from a Professional Standards Commission-approved accredited college or university is preferred.

  • A high school diploma with some additional continuing education through a certification program with 3-6 years of related experience required.
  • Valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements is preferred. If no CDL, one must be obtained within six (6) months of the hire date.
