Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) seeks a Maintenance Trainee as part of the BMNT program. This two-year, classroom and hands-on training develops skills in urban transit bus maintenance, diagnostics, and servicing.

Upon graduation, the trainee advances to a General Transit Bus Garage Mechanic C, under supervision and mentorship. Applicants progress through four training levels, complete required training, and aim to obtain an ASE certification in Transit Bus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 2 years of vocational training in electrical, mechanical or electronics.
• Alternative: 1 year of related work experience with hours/grade progression accepted.

Responsibilities

• Attends formal training classes related to bus maintenance and passes exams with 75% or higher.
• Gains familiarity with WMATA buses, inspection, repair, and calibration.
• Under supervision, uses hand/power tools to diagnose and repair bus malfunctions.
• Works with mentors to perform repairs and services.
• Completes documentation and reports for operation and maintenance tasks.
• Assists with safety and emergency responses per policy.
