This is a position-specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this MTA position only. All interested persons will need to re-apply for future recruitments for this classification.

Position Overview

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Bus Maintenance Supervisor. This key role operates at a supervisory, technical, and administrative level, with responsibilities including planning, coordinating, and forecasting personnel needs for the maintenance and servicing of MTA buses and other vehicles.

The Supervisor is also responsible for tracking employee performance, coordinating drug and alcohol testing, managing labor relations, introducing new procedures and initiatives, issuing disciplinary actions, and enforcing MTA rules, regulations, policies, and labor contracts.

Bus Maintenance Supervisors oversee A, B, and C Repairpersons, as well as Cleaners. They work under the general supervision of a Bus Maintenance Superintendent or other designated official. While guided by existing rules and procedures, Supervisors are expected to complete assignments independently and exercise sound judgment in interpreting policies for non-standard situations.

This position requires 24-hour call-in during emergencies, events, or severe weather. Work is primarily in a vehicle garage environment, which may present hazards, and may involve travel throughout the MTA service area to perform outdoor duties in various weather conditions. Supervisors must wear protective equipment such as uniforms, safety shoes, glasses, and vests, and may need additional gear depending on the task.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Four years in repair, maintenance, and inspection of heavy-duty automotive vehicles and equipment. Two years of management or lead experience is also required.
