Job summary

Hallcon Corporation in California is seeking a Class A mechanic to service and repair motor coach buses and heavy commercial vehicles. The role offers paid training and opportunities to gain OEM, EV, SAE certifications, with a schedule of Thurs through Monday, 5pm - 1:30am.

You will diagnose, maintain, and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems, perform field calls, and keep service records.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general mechanic principles and basic repairs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems in heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Ability to perform strenuous activity.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals.
  • Ability to perform routine and major repairs on vehicles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures on motor coaches and commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on motor coaches.
  • Operate servicing equipment (jacks, hoists, battery chargers, pumps, steamers).
  • Perform routine mechanical repairs and part exchanges.
  • Inspect engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems; report issues.
  • Assist with complex repairs to gain skills.
  • Make field trouble calls and repair equipment in the field.
  • Maintain service records and paperwork.

We have opportunities for Class A mechanics seeking experience with electric vehicle (EV) and diesel commercial vehicle and bus fleets. This role includes skilled mechanical work that focuses on servicing and repairing motor coach buses and commercial vehicles. We provide ongoing professional development with paid training as well as fleet OEM, EV, SAE, and other certification programs.

Preferred Weekly Schedule: Thurs through Monday, 5pm - 1:30am

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures using a variety of equipment, devices and electronic tools
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on motor coaches
  • Operate servicing equipment such as jacks, hydraulic hoists, battery chargers, pumps, steamers, etc. as instructed
  • Perform routine mechanical repairs and adjustments; remove, replace or exchange parts, as required
  • Inspect engines, transmissions, hydraulic, and electrical systems in order to identify problems or malfunctions and report problems for diagnosis
  • Assist in the more complex repairs in order to gain additional skills.
  • Make field "trouble calls" and attempt to repair equipment through standard checks, adjustments, or exchanging parts in the field.
  • Maintain service records and process appropriate paperwork.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of general mechanic principles, to include the basic practices used in servicing and making minor mechanical repairs and adjustments
  • Knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems common to heavy duty vehicles
  • Experience with the use of computerized diagnostic equipment and softwares
  • Ability to perform strenuous activity common to the trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, service manuals, and other reference materials
  • Ability to perform routine, repetitive, and minor/major mechanical repairs and adjustments on vehicles
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Training & Experience
  • 1+ years experience in servicing and maintenance work on heavy equipment
  • Technical college training in diesel or heavy duty equipment mechanics may be substituted for experience
  • Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered
  • Experience servicing electric vehicles is a plus
  • Possession of a valid Class B California Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements is a plus
