Chateaugay Central School is seeking a Bus Driver Trainee in Chateaugay, NY. The position offers a short-term, up-to six-month training period to learn bus operation, safety procedures, and passenger care under supervision.
Candidates must have a New York State Driver's License and be at least 21 years old. Training progresses toward CDL with P and S endorsements, with $16.23 per hour and limited hours per school year.
This is a short-term (up to six (6) months) position allowing incumbent to train and attain the required driver's license to operate the agency's fleet of vehicles. The work involves shadowing a bus driver to become oriented with features of the bus, sitting at controls and, under close supervision, perform basic functions of driver in an area with no traffic (i.e.; parking lot). The work is performed under general supervision. The incumbent does related work as required.
Good knowledge of driving safety practices, vehicle and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under all driving and road conditions; ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with passengers and/or children and command their respect; mechanical aptitude; mental alertness; dependability.
